Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen will try to maintain the best stretch of his young career as the Denver Broncos visit Orchard Park, N.Y., on Sunday. Allen earned AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors after going 21 of 33 for 256 yards with three scores and a rushing touchdown in last week’s win at Miami. After throwing five touchdowns and seven interceptions through the first five games, Allen has eight and none, respectively, over the last five, rushing for four scores over that span as well. He’ll face the league’s fifth-ranked pass defense (210.3 yards per game), which silenced Minnesota for half of Sunday’s game before falling apart in the second half. The Broncos became the first team to blow a 20-point halftime lead in five years. After scoring 20 first-half points, Denver managed just three after the break, marking the 19th consecutive game (an NFL high) in which it has failed to score 25 points. The Bills’ defense has allowed more than 21 points just once this season and ranks third overall in scoring at 17.0 points per game. Brandon Allen will make his third career start at quarterback for the Broncos. He has thrown for 433 yards, three touchdowns and an interception through two games, but he has completed just 29 of 59 attempts.

Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford expects to play again this season despite fractures in his back, but that likely won’t be this week when the Lions visit the Washington Redskins. Stafford has missed consecutive games following a string of 136 consecutive starts, and he did not practice Wednesday. Backup Jeff Driskel has performed admirably in his place, throwing for 478 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in two starts as the Lions have come up a touchdown short in losses at Chicago and at home against Dallas. The Lions have lost three straight and six of seven following a 2-0-1 start. Washington, meanwhile, absorbed its ninth defeat in nine games this season on Sunday, falling 34-17 to the Jets. The Redskins’ lone win came by one point over then-winless Miami in Week 6, and eight of their nine losses have come by more than a touchdown. In his fourth appearance and second career start last week, rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins threw his first two NFL touchdown passes, snapping Washington’s 16-quarter drought without a touchdown. The first of those scores was also the first in the NFL for running back Derrius Guice, who weaved 45 yards on a screen pass. Guice, who missed eight games due to injury, could get more work with Adrian Peterson battling turf toe.

The Carolina Panthers will try to recover from their worst defeat of the season when they visit the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. The Panthers were pummeled at home by the Falcons on Sunday — a week after Atlanta did the same at New Orleans — and the wheels fell off for quarterback Kyle Allen. The second-year undrafted product was sacked five times and threw four interceptions, bringing his totals to 18 sacks taken and nine interceptions thrown over the last four games, three of which Carolina lost. Allen’s 4-0 run as a starter, in which he had seven touchdowns and no picks, is more than a month in the rearview mirror. One bright spot for the Panthers was their run defense, which allowed just 54 yards on 26 carries (2.1 average) after being bludgeoned for 516 yards on 86 carries (6.0 average) over the previous three weeks. The Saints are in much better shape, leading the Panthers by three games atop the AFC South after winning 34-17 at Tampa Bay. New Orleans has two meetings remaining with Carolina, including a trip to Charlotte in Week 17. Drew Brees leads the league in completion percentage (75.4 percent) after doing so each of the last two seasons, with his 74.4 mark last year setting a single-season record.

Two of the league’s three lowest-rated passers will clash on Sunday when the Cleveland Browns host the Miami Dolphins. Baker Mayfield’s 76.8 passer rating is dead last among 33 qualified passers, though he is on the upswing after sporting a 67.8 rating through eight weeks. The 2018 No. 1 overall pick has five touchdown passes and a rushing score against no interceptions over the last three games, including two straight victories. Meanwhile, Ryan Fitzpatrick ranks 31st with a 79.9 passer rating, barely ahead of Andy Dalton, though he hasn’t gotten much help. Fitzpatrick was sacked seven times in Sunday’s loss to the Bills, one of his former teams, bringing his total to 24 sacks absorbed in seven starts. New starting left tackle Julien Davenport — acquired from Houston in the trade of Laremy Tunsil — has allowed two sacks and committed two penalties in two games. Miami’s line caught a break this week, however, as defensive linemen Myles Garrett and Larry Ogunjobi will be suspended for their roles in a brawl at Pittsburgh last week. Olivier Vernon continues to battle an ankle injury for Cleveland, whose schedule is getting easier. The Browns have five games remaining against opponents with three or fewer wins.

Mitchell Trubisky expects to be good to go by Sunday after a hip pointer took him out of the equation during last week’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams. With Trubisky as the primary trigger man, the Bears are near the bottom of the NFL in scoring — 29th overall — but head coach Matt Nagy plans to let it ride with the former No. 2 overall draft pick. The Giants are trying their hand at replacing a franchise quarterback, introducing Daniel Jones as the heir to Eli Manning. But the transition was stunted slightly due to injuries, and running back Saquon Barkley still hasn’t fully emerged as the game-changer the team expected. While the Bears have a defense with some serious bite, the Giants could spell trouble for Chicago with balance in the Week 12 matchup. Tight end Evan Engram is expected to play this week to provide Jones a lead outlet down the field.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph has been part of a sideshow since Browns defensive end Myles Garrett used Rudolph’s helmet as a weapon last week, but the Steelers are attempting to move on for a Week 12 meeting with the winless Cincinnati Bengals. While Rudolph issued an apology and the the Steelers fight for revelance in the AFC playoff picture, Pittsburgh is unlikely to have running back James Conner and wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster due to injuries. The shorthanded Steelers are still mathematicaly alive in the playoff picture, while the Bengals have lost 12 games in a row dating to last season.

Winners of three consecutive games and entering a home stretch in which they face just one team (Kansas City) which currently has a winning record, the Raiders fly east to take on the Jets hoping to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Among the significant contributors for trendy Coach of the Year candidate Jon Gruden is rookie running back Josh Jacobs, who leads all first-year players with 923 rushing yards and seven touchdowns through 10 games. However, Jacobs, nursing a shoulder, was limited in practice this week as were key blockers in left tackle Trent Brown (knee) and center Rodney Hudson (ankle). the matchup between Oakland’s rushing attack against the Jets’ top-ranked run defense – which is allowing just 79.1 yards per contest – could very well be the key to this game. The Jets’ run defense is formidable but could be grounded if key front-line defenders nose guard Steve McClendon (neck) and defensive end Henry Anderson (shoulder) are limited, as they were in practice this week. Linebacker C.J. Mosley remains out with a groin injury. Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has relied upon breakout star tight end Darren Waller this season but he has a tough draw this week against Jamal Adams, the Jets’ leading tackler. At 3-7, the Jets have stalled more than soared on offense, thus far, but could be on the verge of liftoff with 34 points scored each of the past two weeks.

Atlanta stumbled to a 1-7 start but has back-to-back wins over NFC South rivals Carolina and New Orleans with a a chance to pull off the clean sweep of the division as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers roll into town this weekend. The Falcons are 3-7 but have allowed only 12 points the past two games. The Buccaneers are trying to settle down their franchise quarterback, Jameis Winston, who has a league-worst 17 picks this season. Since Ryan Tannehill took over as quarterback, the Tennessee Titans are trending toward a playoff spot, but the AFC South as only a game between first and last place entering Week 12. The Jacksonville Jaguars are getting reacclimated to quarterback Nick Foles, who returned last week from a broken collarbone. Head coach Doug Marrone said the team needs to lean on running back Leonard Fournette more frequently, and that could be especially true as the Titans jostle for playoff position. Jacksonville is attempting to avoid 20-plus point losses in three consecutive games for the first time in five seasons. The Jaguars’ run defense was a key concern last week against the Indianapolis Colts, and running back Derrick Henry had a career day for the Titans 11 months ago when he faced Jacksonville — 238 yards, four touchdowns.

The league’s top-ranked offense and defense collide on Sunday in Foxborough, Mass., when the Dallas Cowboys visit the New England Patriots. Despite a hiccup at Baltimore in Week 9, the Patriots lead the league comfortably in total defense (249.9 yards), yards per play allowed (4.29) and scoring defense (10.8 points per game). The Cowboys, meanwhile, rank first in total offense (444.6) and yards per play (6.71) as well as fourth in scoring (28.6), a tenth of a point behind the Patriots in the latter category. Dak Prescott has been both high-volume and highly efficient for the Cowboys, leading the league with 8.8 yards per attempt despite being on pace for 584 attempts, which would shatter his career high (526). Prescott has 46 attempts in consecutive games, helping offset struggles of Ezekiel Elliott, who has just 36 carries for 92 yards (2.56 average) over that span. Elliott could be featured more this week, as the Patriots’ defense ranks 23rd in yards per carry allowed (4.63), one of its few weaknesses. On offense, the Patriots are looking for more explosiveness and consistency. Tom Brady is averaging 6.8 yards per attempt — which would be his lowest mark over a full season since 2006 — and New England’s offense has scored two or fewer touchdowns in three straight games.

The host San Francisco 49ers remain the league’s elite pass defense on paper (142.5 yards per game allowed) but have been torched the past three weeks, surrendering an average of 26 points to division rivals Arizona and Seattle with the past two games at Levi’s Stadium. As such, Aaron Rodgers may be licking his chops at a chance to return to his home state of California to knock off the current NFC leaders. His favorite receiver, Davante Adams, has gutted through a painful turf toe injury to contribute the past two games and running back Aaron Jones is supporting the cause with an NFL-best 14 touchdowns scored this season (tied with Carolina’s Christian McCaffery), including nine on the ground. With the exception of Adams (listed as questionable), the Packers enter the showdown relatively healthy. That is not the case for the 49ers, with left tackle Joe Staley (ruled out with a finger), edge rusher Dee Ford (doubtful with a hamstring) and tight end George Kittle (questionable with a knee) potentially missing his third consecutive game. For the second time this season (both against the Cardinals), Jimmy Garoppolo threw four touchdowns in Sunday’s comeback win over Arizona. Duplicating that feat against a Packers’ defense which has allowed just 12 touchdowns through the air all season will be tough with receivers Emmanuel Sanders (ribs) and flashy rookie Deebo Samuel (shoulder) also questionable.

Coming off a bye – and prior to that, their most impressive performance of the year in a MNF win in San Francisco – the Seattle Seahawks and MVP candidate Russell Wilson are flying high. Injuries have kept Carson Wentz and the hosting Eagles from soaring to quite the same heights on offense but the defense remains formidable, currently ranking fourth overall in rush defense (allowing just 86 yards per game) and providing a more consistent pass rush than their mediocre 25 sacks (tied with six other teams for 15th in the NFL) would suggest. Given how Pete Carroll typically prefers to run the ball to set up the pass, the Eagles’ stout front could make this contest even closer than the 17-10 win the visiting New England Patriots pulled off in Philadelphia a week ago. Philadelphia’s season-long injury woes at wide receiver could continue Sunday with Nelson Agholor (knee) and Alshon Jeffery (ankle) limited. Both were officially listed as questionable, as were Pro Bowl offensive tackles Jason Peters (knee) and Lane Johnson (concussion). Without playmakers on the outside, Wentz has been left attempting to squeeze passes through narrow holes to his tight ends and backs. Jordan Howard was limited with a shoulder injury in practice after missing the Patriots game, meaning that recently re-signed veteran Jay Ajayi and rookie Miles Sanders could be shouldering the load against Seattle. The Seahawks cautiously listed eight starters as questionable – including star receiver Tyler Lockett and splashy newcomer Jadeveon Clowney – but Carroll sounded optimistic most would be ready to go.
