UEFA Champions League Betting Preview

Tottenham vs Olympiacos

Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium | Start: 07:00

Tottenham: Spurs have had a middling Champions League campaign, sitting in second place with 7 points thus far. They had comfortably their best win last time out, a 4-0 road win over Crvena. With Olympiacos in fourth place, a win here would lock up a spot in the knockout stages. Although their stats are far from great, a lot of this is due to that anomalous thrashing against Bayern.

Olympiacos: Olympiacos find themselves dead last in this group, managing just a single point thus far. That point was ironically on match day 1, in the reverse fixture played in Greece. They’re yet to be thumped, losing each of their last 3 UCL games by only one or two goals. Their domestic form has still been exemplary, entering this clash atop the Greek Super League after 10 games.

Betting Analysis: Especially given how Poch’s run ended, I’m definitely more comfortable backing Spurs here. They’ve got a huge talent advantage in this one and should be motivated to secure a top two spot. Olympiacos will put up a decent fight, but I see a 3-1 Spurs win on the cards here. Over 2.5 goals and BTTS both look like early value plays.

Head to Head: Tottenham
Half-time/Full-time: Tottenham/Tottenham
Over/Under 2.5: Over 2.5 Goals
Both Teams Score: Yes

Real Madrid vs PSG

Venue: Santiago Bernabeu | Start: 07:00

Real Madrid: Real Madrid enter this clash in second place, sitting on 7 points through 4 games. They had an excellent result last time out, a 6-0 win over Galatasaray that all but secured top two. Their first game against PSG started this campaign disastrously, a 3-0 road defeat that was worse than the score suggests. They’ve still been solid domestically, sitting in the top two with 25 points through 12 games.

PSG: PSG have strolled through this group, winning each of their first 4 games to sit 1st with 12 points. They’ve scored 10 goals going forward and have kept an impressive four successive clean sheets thus far. Results may have dipped slightly of late, although they still got a solid enough 1-0 win over Brugge last time out. They’re unsurprisingly atop Ligue 1, earning 30 points from their first 13 games.

Betting Analysis: Given they lost 3-0 in the reverse fixture, I’d expect Madrid to have the motivational edge here. With PSG all but locked into first place, Madrid will also want to lock up top two with a result. Despite the Bale controversy, I think they come out with energy and secure a tense 2-1 win here. I like the look of BTTS here, which pairs nicely with over 2.5 goals.

Head to Head: Real Madrid
Half-time/Full-time: Draw/Real Madrid
Over/Under 2.5: Over 2.5 Goals
Both Teams Score: Yes

Man City vs Shakhtar Donetsk

Venue: Etihad Stadium | Start: 07:00

Man City: City enter this clash atop Group C, earning 10 points from their first 4. They had a minor blip at Atalanta last time out, ultimately dropping points in a 1-1 draw. Despite a lot of solid results thus far, they sit 4th in the Premier League, mainly due to strong results from their competition. They’ve got a high-profile weekend clash with Chelsea, which may steal some focus from this one.

Shakhtar Donetsk: Shakhtar are currently equal second in the group, managing 5 points from 4 and the tie-breaker over Dinamo. They’ve historically struggled against City, losing 3-0 in game 1 at home. Their late results have definitely improved, highlighted by a tense 3-3 draw with Dinamo last time out. They’re also dominant domestically, sitting comfortably in 1st place after an undefeated season so far.

Betting Analysis: The draw to Atalanta last time out means City likely put more resources forth in this one. The Etihad is still a very tough place to play and I expect that to continue from Shakhtar here. I like a repeat of the match day 1 score and will take City 3-0 in this one. There is strong value on City to win to nil as well as City -2.

Head to Head: Man City
Half-time/Full-time: Man City/Man City
Over/Under 2.5: Over 2.5 Goals
Both Teams Score: No

Juventus vs Atletico Madrid

Venue: Allianz Stadium | Start: 07:00

Juventus: Juve currently sit atop their group after amassing 10 points from their first 4 games. They managed a decent result in the reverse fixture, coming from behind to secure a 2-2 at Atletico. They’ve done just enough to win since then, managing consecutive 2-1 wins over Lokomotiv. Their domestic form has also been stellar, sitting atop Serie A with an undefeated record through 12 games.

Atletico Madrid: Atletico have been decent thus far, compiling a 2-1-1 record to sit 2nd with 7 points. They should’ve beat Juve on match day 1 but ultimately conceded 2 late ones to draw 2-2. Their last result also sticks out as a poor one, falling 2-1 away at Leverkusen. They’re still among the top sides in La Liga, sitting in 3rd with 24 points on the campaign

Betting Analysis: As long as Juve get a result here, they can all but guarantee top spot in the group. I think this will be a defensive and hard-fought fixture, likely ending in a draw. 1-1 seems fairly likely, currently offering a healthy $7 payout. I also like the look of under 2.5 goals as I really can’t see any free-flowing football here.

Over/Under 2.5: Under 2.5 Goals
