KINGS VS NUGGETS
Venue: Golden 1 Center | Start: 9:00am AEDT
One team hopes the road doesn’t stall its winning ways. The other would like to think being at home will make the difference between winning and losing. Such are the mind-sets when the Denver Nuggets take their six-game winning streak to Sacramento on Saturday afternoon to face a Kings team that has lost two straight. The Kings have dropped five in a row to Denver, including all three last season and 101-94 at home in October in a game in which they outshot the visitors, 39.6 percent to 36.7. Denver is riding the momentum of a 4-0 homestand that included eye-catching wins over Houston and Boston. Sacramento, meanwhile, had two such headline-grabbing opportunities on a just completed 1-3 trip, but came up one point short at Boston and six points short at Philadelphia. The Kings remain without De’Aaron Fox (sprained ankle) and Marvin Bagley III (broken thumb), and up against a team that’s seen its five starters miss a total of just two games all season. The center duel between Nikola Jokic (held to nine points in the earlier meeting) and Dewayne Dedmon (had 18 points in his head-to-head with Joel Embiid on Wednesday) could be the difference-maker.
Win: Denver Nuggets
Line: Denver Nuggets -4.5
Total Points: Under 207.5
76ERS VS PACERS
Venue: Wells Fargo Center | Start: 11:00am AEDT
The Indiana Pacers likely will have tired legs and wide smiles when they visit the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night. Indiana is coming off a thrilling 105-104 overtime win against the Atlanta Hawks less than 24 hours earlier. The home-court victory marked Indiana’s fifth win in a row, which is its best stretch of the season. The Pacers face a difficult test as they look to increase their winning streak to a half-dozen games. Philadelphia has won two straight games and six of its past seven. Superstar center Joel Embiid has been responsible for a large part of the 76ers’ success, and he will look to stay hot after tallying a double-double with 27 points and 17 rebounds on Friday against the New York Knicks. Look for Pacers’ big men Myles Turner and Domantas Sabonis to be part of a group effort geared toward slowing down Embiid. Indiana also has a hot hand in Jeremy Lamb, who is coming off a 20-point performance in which he made 9 of 15 shots against Atlanta. This is the first of four meetings between the Pacers and 76ers. They will play in Indianapolis on Dec. 31 and Jan. 13, and they will return to Philadelphia on March 14 to close out the regular-season series.
Win: Philadelphia 76ers
Line: Indiana Pacers +5.5
Total Points: Under 213.5
BUCKS VS HORNETS
Venue: Fiserv Forum | Start: 12:00pm AEDT
The Charlotte Hornets have won back-to-back games, something of an accomplishment for a team that was mired in a skid at the beginning of the week. They’ll try to keep the success going Saturday night at Milwaukee, which has won 10 games in row — the franchise’s longest streak in 36 seasons. Both teams played Friday night, with the Bucks winning 119-110 at Cleveland. Giannis Antetokounmpo has recorded a double-double in every Bucks game this season, so slowing him down will be one of the priorities for the Hornets. Charlotte’s two-game winning streak comes with a pair of narrow victories against the Detroit Pistons. Both of them came with the Hornets making a final defensive stand. At the offensive end, there has been another uptick from rookie forward P.J. Washington, who provided 26 points in Friday night’s outing. His production has been key as center Cody Zeller remains out with a hip injury. Bismack Biyombo has replaced Zeller in the lineup, pouring in a total of 32 points across the past two games. This will be the first meeting between the Hornets, who’ll be gunning for their second three-game win streak of the season, and Bucks this season. This is the first of five home games across a six-game stretch for Milwaukee.
Win: Milwaukee Bucks
Line: Charlotte Hornets +14.5
Total Points: Under 228.5
ROCKETS VS HAWKS
Venue: Toyota Center | Start: 12:00pm AEDT
Trae Young went for 49 points on Friday night, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Atlanta Hawks from losing their ninth game in a row in Indiana against the Pacers. Now the Hawks (4-15) travel to Houston to take on the Rockets on Saturday night in the second of a back-to-back. The Hawks forced the Pacers into overtime in the second of their three-game road trip. But T.J. Warren’s go ahead 3-pointer gave the Pacers the 105-104 victory, sending the Hawks to their 12th defeat in their past 13 games. Young, who leads the Hawks in scoring, was magnificent in almost every way, shooting 16-for-28 from the floor, including 8-for-15 from the 3-point line, and making all nine of his free throws. Young, however, turned the ball over a game-high nine times in defeat. The rested Rockets (12-6) are coming off a nine-point victory over the Miami Heat at home Wednesday night, a win which snapped a three-game losing skid. James Harden scored a game-high 34 points, albeit on 9 of 22 shooting from the field. The Rockets led by 24 at halftime and fended off the Heat in the fourth quarter; the Heat outscored Houston by 14 in the final stanza.
Win: Houston Rockets
Line: Atlanta Hawks +13.5
Total Points: Under 236.5
