Champions League Tips – Wednesday, March 11 2020

Valencia v Atalanta

Venue: Camp de Mestalla, Valencia | Start: 7:00 AM

Valencia: Valencia were the surprise winners of Group H, narrowly edging Chelsea based on the tie-breaker. They’ve been somewhat disappointing in the league, now just 7th with 42 points. They were shredded in the opening leg, falling 4-1 away in Italy.

Atalanta: They absolutely scraped through in the group stages, advancing with just 7 points. Their domestic form has been much better, occupying a top 4 spot with 48 total points. They were hugely impressive in the opening leg, taking control with a dominant 4-1 win.

Analysis: Valencia require a major turnaround here and I’m sure they’ll come out swinging. I can see them winning this one at home, but not doing enough to advance to the Quarters. I’ll predict 2-1 Valencia here, with over 2.5 goals in what should be a high-scoring affair.

Head to Head: Valencia
Half-time/Full-time: Valencia/Valencia
Over/Under 2.5: Over 2.5
Both Teams Score: Yes

Leipzig v Tottenham

Venue: RB Arena, Leipzig | Start: 7:00 AM

RB Leipzig: Leipzig had a strong group stage, winning Group G with 11 points. They’ve backed this up in the Bundesliga, where they sit 3rd with 50 points. They took control of this tie in leg 1, earning an impressive 1-0 win away at Spurs.

Tottenham: Despite struggling against Bayern, Spurs finished comfortably 2nd in their group with 10 points. They haven’t enjoyed a productive league campaign, now sitting in 8th with 41 points. They’ll need a road win to get out of this hole, but they definitely have the talent to do it.

Analysis: These are two relatively evenly matched sides and I wouldn’t say the tie is over just yet. I think it goes down to the wire, ultimately ending in a score draw. I’ll say 1-1 for the scorecast backers, with BTTS as a decent side bet.

Half-time/Full-time: Spurs/Draw
Over/Under 2.5: Under
Both Teams Score: Yes

Champions League Tips – Thursday, March 12 2020

Liverpool v Atlético

Venue: Anfield, Liverpool | Start: 7:00 AM

Liverpool: 13 points from the group stage saw Liverpool narrowly edge out Napoli for top spot. They’ve maintained that form domestically, where they sit comfortably in first. They have some work to do in this tie however, having fallen 1-0 away at Atletico in leg 1.

Atletico: While they couldn’t topple Juventus, Atletico emerged 2nd from their group with 10 points. They’ve been mediocre domestically, sitting in 5th place with 45 points. They got a great result in the first leg, managing the sole goal in a defensive masterclass.

Analysis: While it hasn’t been a great season by Atletico’s standards, I think they match up well with Liverpool here. This has the makings of another very even tie that could be decided late on. I’ll predict a draw here, 1-1 for the scorecast backers, meaning Liverpool would be out in 3 of 4 competitions.

Half-time/Full-time: Draw/Draw
Over/Under 2.5: Under
Both Teams Score: Yes

Paris v Dortmund

Venue: Parc des Princes, Paris | Start: 7:00 AM

PSG: PSG enjoyed a dominant group stage, topping Group A with 16 points from 18. They’ve been similarly impressive in the league, sitting 12 points clear with 68. They enter this clash with a deficit, having lost 2-1 at Dortmund last time out.

Dortmund: Dortmund navigated a difficult Group F, coming in 2nd with 10 points. They’ve been strong domestically this season, sitting just 1 point behind Bayern in 2nd. They’re in the driver’s seat for this tie, with 2 Haland goals securing a 2-1 lead.

Analysis: This is another very interesting clash between two top sides. I think PSG is the slightly better of the two and that they’ll do just enough to advance here. I’ll go 3-1 to the Parisians, with BTTS and over 2.5 as supplementary bets.

Head to Head: PSG
Half-time/Full-time: PSG/PSG
Over/Under 2.5: Over
Both Teams Score: Yes

Champions League Tips – Wednesday, March 18 2020

Juventus v Lyon

Venue: Juventus Stadium, Turin | Start: 7:00 AM

Juventus: Juve had a near flawless group stage, picking up 16 points to win the group by 6. They enter this clash with a deficit, having lost 1-0 away at Lyon last time out. They’ve had a strong season domestically, although they sit just 1 point ahead of Lazio in 1st.

Lyon: Lyon advanced from one of the weaker groups, earning just 8 points to scrape through in 2nd. They had a very impressive win in leg 1, managing a clean sheet en route to a 1-0. They sit a relatively disappointing 7th in Ligue 1, earning just 40 points thus far.

Analysis: Although Lyon enter this one with a solid lead, I can’t see anything but Juve advancing here. I’d expect them to keep a clean sheet, while they do enough offensively to win by a couple. I’ll predict 2-0 for the scorecast backers, while Juve to win to nil is also solid.

Head to Head: Juventus
Half-time/Full-time: Juve/Juve
Over/Under 2.5: Under
Both Teams Score: No

Man. City v Real Madrid

Venue: City of Manchester Stadium, Manchester | Start: 7:00 AM

Man City: City advanced top of their group, 7 points clear with 14. They had a great win in the opening leg, beating Madrid 2-1 away from home. Their domestic form has been good but not great this season, currently sitting in 2nd place.

Real Madrid: Madrid advanced from Group A in 2nd place, sitting 8 points clear of Club Brugge in 3rd. They were favourites to win this tie, although they suffered a disappointing home loss in round 1. They’re in with a shot at the La Liga title, sitting 2 points behind Barca in 2nd.

Analysis: With the uncertainty surrounding Corona Virus, this is easily a game that could be postponed. That said, I think the injuries and suspensions for Madrid give City a solid edge here. I’ll predict another 2-1 win for the Citizens, meaning they advance to the quarters.

Head to Head: City
Half-time/Full-time: Draw/City
Over/Under 2.5: Over
Both Teams Score: Yes

Champions League Tips – Thursday, March 19 2020

Bayern v Chelsea

Venue: Football Arena Munich, Munich | Start: 7:00 AM

Bayern Munich: Bayern were flawless in the group stage, winning all 6 games with a +19-goal difference. They were also dominant in leg 1, beating Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge. This great form has continued domestically, where they sit 1st in the Bundesliga with 55 points.

Chelsea: Chelsea narrowly advanced from an interesting Group H, sitting in 2nd on 11 points. Their atrocious 1st leg performance makes it really tough here, getting demolished 3-0. Their domestic form has been reasonable, doing enough to sit just inside the top 4.

Analysis: We’ve seen this type of game play out several times over the years. Either Chelsea will do enough to keep this tie close, or Bayern cruises to yet another win. It’s tough to bet against Bayern given recent form and I’ll predict 2-1 for scorecast backers.

Head to Head: Bayern
Half-time/Full-time: Bayern/Bayern
Over/Under 2.5: Over
Both Teams Score: Yes

Barcelona v Napoli

Venue: Camp Nou, Barcelona | Start: 7:00 AM

Barcelona: Barca made it through a tough group F, comfortably topping the group with 14 points. They were good but not great in leg 1, picking up a decent 1-1 draw. Their domestic form has also been stellar, sitting atop La Liga with 58 points.

Napoli: Napoli emerged through the group stage undefeated, just one point behind Liverpool with 12. They remain undefeated after leg 1, securing a 1-1 home draw with Barca. They sit a somewhat disappointing 6th in Serie A, securing 39 points thus far.

Analysis: Barca enter this match in a relatively good position and I’d be shocked if they don’t advance here. I expect them to win in a somewhat close one, predicting a final of 2-1. It should be a high-scoring affair, so feel free to back over 2.5 and BTTS.

Head to Head: Barca
Half-time/Full-time: Barca/Barca
Over/Under 2.5: Over
Both Teams Score: Yes
