The Los Angeles Chargers placed Pro Bowl defensive end Melvin Ingram on injured reserve on Saturday.

Ingram, 31, has been battling a knee injury that forced him to miss practice this week. By being placed on IR, he will miss at least three games and be eligible to return on Oct. 18 when the Chargers host the New York Jets.

He posted two tackles and an interception in the Chargers’ Week 1 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. He left last week’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs with the injury.

The No. 18 overall pick in the 2012 draft by the Chargers, Ingram has 49 sacks, 103 quarterback hits, 352 tackles and three interceptions in 108 career games.

The Chargers also placed linebacker Asmar Bilal and defensive tackle Justin Jones on IR and promoted guard Ryan Groy, linebacker Malik Jefferson and defensive end Jessie Lemonier to the active roster in corresponding moves.

The Chargers (1-1) host the Panthers (0-2) on Sunday. Carolina will be without All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey, who is on IR with an ankle injury.
