BUCCANEERS VS VIKINGS

Raymond James Stadium | 5:00am AEDT

Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will look to boost their playoff chances when they visit the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Tampa Bay (7-5) and Minnesota (6-6) each have their eyes on the postseason with four games to go in the regular season. The Buccaneers have the star power in quarterback Tom Brady, who is coming off a 345-yard, three-touchdown performance. Brady has thrown for 10 touchdowns and only two interceptions in five career starts against the Vikings, and he will go for his sixth game in a row against Minnesota with a passer rating of 100 or better. Brady’s top target is Mike Evans, who caught two touchdowns in his most recent game. Minnesota is led by running back Dalvin Cook, who racked up 179 yards from scrimmage (120 rushing, 59 receiving) a week ago. Rookie wide receiver Justin Jefferson also is a threat to make a big play at any time. Jefferson had nine catches for 121 yards in his last game, and he already has surpassed the 1,000-yard mark with 1,039 receiving yards in his first 12 games.

SEAHAWKS VS JETS

Lumen Field | 8:05am AEDT

The Seahawks (8-4), the co-leaders of the NFC West, will try to rebound after a 17-12 home loss to the New York Giants last weekend. The Jets (0-12) nearly got their first victory last Sunday, but allowed a 46-yard touchdown pass with five seconds left in a 31-28 loss to Las Vegas. QB Sam Darnold had his best game of the season, completing 14 of 23 passes for two touchdowns and also rushing for a score. They were the first TD passes he’d thrown since Week 3. Ty Johnson replaced Frank Gore (concussion) and rushed for a career-high 104 yards and a TD. The Jets have scored on their opening drive in six straight games, the longest active streak in the NFL and tied for the best in franchise history. While the Seahawks’ defense has been improving, allowing 23 or fewer points in each of the past four games, the offense has gone in reverse. After scoring 27 or more points in each of their first eight games, the Seahawks have reached that mark just once since. And they’ve failed to amass 350 yards of total offense in each of their past four games. Seahawks safety Jamal Adams, a first-round pick of the Jets, will face his former team for the first time. Adams has 7 1/2 sacks and needs one more to break the NFL record for most by a defensive back in a season.

49ERS VS REDSKINS

State Farm Stadium | 8:25am AEDT

Washington Football Team coach Ron Rivera found himself cautioning his team to avoid overconfidence after its 23-17 road win over Pittsburgh on Monday. The victory was the third in a row for Washington (5-7), which has overcome a 1-5 start to stand tied with the New York Giants for first place in the NFC East. Washington is preparing to face the San Francisco 49ers in Glendale, Ariz., without leading rusher Antonio Gibson, who suffered a toe injury in the Pittsburgh game. Peyton Barber figures to get more work, while J.D. McKissic remains the chief pass-catching back. Quarterback Alex Smith will be facing his former team for just the second time since the 49ers traded him to Kansas City in 2013. Smith’s team lost that game when the Chiefs were beaten 22-17 by the 49ers in 2014. Case Keenum was the starting quarterback in the rain when Washington lost 9-0 at home to the 49ers last season. Meanwhile, the San Francisco 49ers (5-7) figure they need to win their remaining four games in order to have a shot at making the NFC playoffs. That begins Sunday when they play their second straight neutral-site game in Glendale, Ariz., this one against the Washington Football Team. The 49ers were done in by four Josh Allen touchdown passes and key offensive failures of their own in a 34-24 loss to Buffalo on Monday night in Arizona. The 49ers have beaten Washington in five of their last six meetings. The 49ers got Raheem Mostert, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk on the field together for just the third time this season against the Bills, but still remain without Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle, both of whom won’t play again this week. The 49ers enter the week two games out of the final playoff spot in the NFC wild-card race.

CHARGERS VS FALCONS

SoFi Stadium | 8:25am AEDT

With a quarter of the season still remaining, there will not be much talk about the playoffs when the Atlanta Falcons travel to the West Coast to face the Los Angeles Chargers. The Falcons (4-8) are much improved after an 0-5 start that cost head coach Dan Quinn his job. And even though they lost two of their last three games, those two defeats were against the NFC-best Saints, with Sunday’s loss a competitive 21-16 affair. The game marks a return to L.A. for Atlanta running back Todd Gurley, who established himself as a star with the Rams before knee troubles surfaced. The Falcons’ running game has been inconsistent of late, but a matchup with the below-average run defense of the Chargers provides a chance to have better offensive balance again. The Chargers (3-9) at least were competitive early but enter off an embarrassing 45-0 defeat to the Patriots at home that eliminated them from playoff consideration. The final four games of the season likely will provide head coach Anthony Lynn the chance to save his job and show he has the team’s ear. Los Angeles rookie QB Justin Herbert has just one combined TD pass in his last two games after multiple TD passes in seven consecutive games.

EAGLES VS SAINTS

Lincoln Financial Field | 8:25am AEDT

The Saints apparently will play one more game without injured quarterback Drew Brees. He’s targeting next week’s game against Kansas City for a return. In the meantime, Taysom Hill is 3-0 as the starter in his absence. Hill is completing 71 percent of his passes and has run for 58 yards per game and four touchdowns. New Orleans sits atop the NFC at 10-2 and has the NFL’s longest winning streak at nine games. They rank fourth in scoring defense (20.1) and fifth in scoring (28.9). Alvin Kamara is third in the NFL in yards from scrimmage (1,328) and tied for second with 13 touchdowns. The Eagles(3-8-1) have turned to rookie Jalen Hurts as their starting quarterback as they try to end a four-game losing streak and improve their fading hopes in the NFC East title chase. Hurts replaced Carson Wentz (16 touchdowns and 15 interceptions this season) in the second half against Green Bay last week and provided a brief spark with his first touchdown pass, but he finished just five of 12 for 109 yards and threw an interception. Philadelphia, which hasn’t scored more than 17 points during its losing streak, is 26th in the NFL with a scoring average of 21.1. The Eagles rank 19th in scoring defense (25.6).

RAIDERS VS COLTS

Allegiant Stadium | 8:05am AEDT

The Indianapolis Colts have won three of their past four games. Quarterback Philip Rivers has eight touchdown passes with two interceptions in those four games. The Colts have had a few games during the past month with some splendid second-half defense and that’s something that they’ll need to count on. Jordan Wilkins, Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines have taken turns as the team’s top rusher, but the Colts haven’t had a 100-yard rusher in a game since the second week of the season (Taylor with 101 in that one). This is the fifth time in their last six games that the Colts face a team with a winning record. As for the Las Vegas Raiders, they are facing a team with a winning record for only the second time in a six-week span. Their victory against the winless New York Jets last week almost left them in position needing to apologize, but it prevented them tumbling to a three-game losing streak for the first time this season. Las Vegas has eclipsed the 30-point mark in four of its last five games. The Raiders looked to tighten their secondary by signing free-agent cornerback Daryl Worley this week, a move that might prove beneficial with cornerback Isaiah Johnson (groin) and safeties Johnathan Abram (knee) and Jeff Heath (concussion) also on the injury report.

GIANTS VS CARDINALS

MetLife Stadium | 5:00am AEDT

The suddenly surging New York Giants will look to take another step toward an unlikely NFC East title when they host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. New York (5-7) leaned heavily on its running game last week as Colt McCoy made his first start of the season at quarterback in place of Daniel Jones. The focus on the run led to a 135-yard performance by running back Wayne Gallman, marking his first career 100-yard game. Gallman has six touchdowns in his last six games and will try to score at home for the third game in a row. The Giants also have a good defense, which includes linebacker Blake Martinez, whose 111 tackles rank third in the league. New York will have to be focused defensively against Arizona (6-6), which boasts a couple of talented players in quarterback Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins. Arizona is in a deep slide but remains optimistic that it can secure a playoff berth. The Cardinals and Giants also met last season, with Arizona emerging with a 27-21 victory. Arizona has won four of the past five matchups, but New York holds a commanding lead in the all-time series with a record of 80-45-2.

DOLPHINS VS CHIEFS

Hard Rock Stadium | 5:00am AEDT

The Kansas City Chiefs have clinched their sixth straight playoff appearance and now take aim at landing the AFC’s No. 1 seed and they will continue that pursuit on Sunday against the host Miami Dolphins. The Chiefs (11-1) are battling the Pittsburgh Steelers for homefield advantage throughout the postseason. The defending Super Bowl champions have won their past seven games and also stand 6-0 on the road this season as they begin back-to-back tough road games against Miami and the New Orleans Saints. Travis Kelce (82 catches, 1,114 yards) is the first tight end in NFL history with five 1,000-yard seasons. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes leads the NFL with 3,815 yards and ranks third with 31 touchdown passes while being intercepted just twice. The Chiefs rank second in scoring at 30.8 points but could face a challenge from the Dolphins, who rank second in scoring defense at 17.7. Miami (8-4) could boost its playoff chances with an upset as it tries to either catch the AFC East-leading Buffalo Bills or attain a wild-card spot. The Dolphins have won seven of their past eight contests and allowed a total of 10 points while winning their past two games. Rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa passed for a season-best 296 yards in last Sunday’s 19-7 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals and he has yet to be intercepted in 136 career throws. Running back Myles Gaskin had 141 scrimmage yards (90 rushing, 51 receiving) against the Bengals.

JAGUARS VS TITANS

TIAA Bank Field | 5:00am AEDT

The Tennessee Titans (8-4) have a chance to secure a winning regular season when they visit the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars (1-11) on Sunday. Tennessee quarterback Ryan Tannehill will try to make that happen. He is coming off a season-best performance in which he completed 29 of 45 passes for 389 yards and three touchdowns to go along with one interception. Tannehill is helped in large part by a dominant running game. Derrick Henry has 100-plus rushing yards in three of his past four contests, and he has 100-plus rushing yards in eight consecutive road games. That is tied for the second-longest streak in NFL history. Jacksonville is playing for the future, namely a high draft pick, with four weeks to go. Veteran stopgap quarterback Mike Glennon was OK last week, completing 28 of 42 passes for 280 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Running back James Robinson also figures to stay highly involved after tallying 108 yards from scrimmage last week (78 rushing, 30 receiving).

LIONS VS PACKERS

Ford Field | 8:25am AEDT

The Green Bay Packers will aim to keep rolling — and possibly clinch the NFC North title — while dousing the Detroit Lions’ own flickering playoff hopes. Winners of four of their last five, Green Bay (9-3) can wrap up the division with a win and a Minnesota Vikings loss or tie, or a tie and a Vikings loss. The host Packers handled the Lions 42-21 in Week 2. The Packers are coming off a 30-16 home win against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 13, with Aaron Rodgers finishing 25 of 34 for 295 yards and three touchdowns. Rodgers enters the game with 36 touchdown passes this season, and is the first quarterback in league history to throw for at least 35 scores in five separate seasons. Packers wide receiver Davante Adams has caught a touchdown in seven straight games, trying a franchise record. The Lions (5-7) are one game out of the final NFC wild card spot after rallying on the road to beat the Chicago Bears 34-30 last week. Quarterback Matthew Stafford was 27 of 42 for 402 yards with three touchdowns and one interception to help interim coach Darrell Bevell win his debut. The Lions defense will face a test, as Green Bay boasts the league’s top scoring offense.

BENGALS VS COWBOYS

Paul Brown Stadium | 5:00am AEDT

With nearly two weeks to prepare, the Cowboys’ (3-9) porous defense got exposed again on Tuesday when the Baltimore Ravens ran for 294 yards in doubling up Dallas 34-17. Maybe the short week to get ready for a second consecutive road game will make a difference. Dallas ranks last in the NFL in both scoring defense (32.8 points per game allowed) and rushing defense (167.8 yards per game allowed). Andy Dalton (1,155 yards, seven TDs, 6 INTs) has been serviceable at quarterback, but injuries on the offensive line and RB Ezekiel Elliott’s sub-par year (3.5 per carry, 4 lost fumbles) have led to a stagnant offense. The Cowboys have scored more than 20 points just once in their last seven games, their only win (31-28) at Minnesota on Nov. 22. Meanwhile, the Bengals (2-9-1) are going with Brandon Allen at quarterback, but the offensive issues extend beyond the journeyman backup. Cincinnati gave up six sacks a week ago, and this week placed former first-round pick and starting left tackle Jonah Williams on the Reserve/Injured list. Cincinnati ranks 30th in the league in rushing (91.6 yards per game), which means the relatively inexperienced quarterback won’t be able to lean on another facet that could potentially attack Dallas’ biggest weakness. The Bengals have been a tough out of late, holding leads in each of the last three games, but enter riding a four-game losing skid with just 10 combined points in the second half of their last four contests.

BEARS VS TEXANS

Soldier Field | 5:00am AEDT

The Houston Texans (4-8) will look to continue their success against the Chicago Bears (5-7) when the teams meet Sunday afternoon. Houston boasts an all-time record of 4-0 against the Bears, including a 23-14 win in the teams’ most recent meeting on Sept. 11, 2016. This marks their first matchup in Chicago since Nov. 11, 2012, when the Texans emerged with a 13-6 victory. This season’s version of the Texans is flawed but talented, with quarterback Deshaun Watson giving the club a chance to finish on a strong note. Watson could be particularly motivated to spoil the afternoon for the Bears, who passed on him in the 2017 NFL draft in favor of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Three-plus years later, it is obvious that Chicago made the wrong choice. The Bears have lost six games in a row, and Trubisky committed a costly turnover as the team collapsed in the fourth quarter last week against the Detroit Lions. Chicago typically has a good defense to go along with a weak offense, but lately the defense also has shown warts. During the past two weeks, the Bears have given up 75 points. Running back David Montgomery will try to stay hot for Chicago after compiling 111 yards from scrimmage and a pair of rushing touchdowns last week.

PANTHERS VS BRONCOS

Bank of America Stadium | 5:00am AEDT

Denver Broncos quarterback Drew Lock seems to have secured the starting role despite a lack of convincing numbers (9 touchdown passes, 13 interceptions). The final stretch of the season is a chance for him to nail down the top spot on the depth chart heading to the offseason. The Broncos have scored more than 20 points in only four games this season. There’s a retooling to take place on defense with cornerbacks A.J. Bouye (suspension) and Essang Bassey (season-ending knee injury) gone from the active roster in the past week. The Broncos are coming off a solid outing in last week’s loss at Kansas City. Denver’s past four games have come against teams with winning records, so the Carolina Panthers (4-8) might look like a reprieve. The Panthers have stumbled in five of their last six games, with the lone victory in that stretch a shutout of Detroit. Carolina is coming off an open date, so the team could be refreshed even though on-field practice this week was limited because of positive coronavirus tests. That’s leaving potential holes in the lineup if receivers D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel and linebacker Shaq Thompson – among eight added to the reserve/covid-19 list – aren’t cleared to play. It looked like running back Christian McCaffrey would be ready to return from a shoulder ailment, but a discomfort with a quad has put that in question (and he missed more practice time) for the all-pro who has appeared in only three games this season. Carolina has won only one of six all-time meetings with Denver.

BILLS VS STEELERS

Bills Stadium | 12:20pm AEDT

Coming off their first defeat of the season, it might not appear to be the best time for the Pittsburgh Steelers to be facing the surging Buffalo Bills. Or maybe it is. When two of the top teams in the AFC meet Sunday at Buffalo playoff scenarios will be plentiful. The Steelers can get in with a victory, while the Bills could earn their spot with a victory and a little help around the league. The Steelers (11-1) should be highly motivated and they already have shown they can play with anybody in the NFL, even if their first defeat Monday came against the 5-7 Washington Football Team by a 23-17 score. In typical Steelers fashion, the team is a defensive juggernaut, leading the NFL in points allowed (17.6). Pittsburgh also leads in sacks (44) and is third in yards allowed (300.5). The Bills (9-3) are in search of their first AFC East title since 1995 led by the arms and legs of QB Josh Allen, who has thrown for 283.6 yards per game (fifth among QBs with 12 games played) along with 26 TDs, and another 322 yards rushing with six TDs. The Bills have won five of six, with the only defeat in that stretch coming on a last-second Hail Mary pass by the Cardinals.
