Atlanta Hawks rookie center Onyeka Okongwu will miss at least the first two games of the season as he continues to recover from an injury to his left foot.

Okongwu, who was selected with the sixth overall pick of the draft, is dealing with an inflamed sesamoid bone that has limited him in practices and kept him out of preseason games.

The team said Okongwu will be re-evaluated on Dec. 28, the date of the Hawks’ home opener against the Detroit Pistons.

The Hawks open the season with road games at the Chicago Bulls (Dec. 23) and Memphis Grizzlies (Dec. 26) before coming home to face the Pistons.

Guard Kris Dunn (knee), who joined the team as a free agent in the offseason, is also expected to miss the first two games and be re-evaluated on Dec. 28.
