Seattle Seahawks v Washington Football Team

FedExField | 5:00am AEDT

The Seahawks (9-4), the co-leaders of the NFC West, can clinch a playoff berth with a victory while NFC East-leading Washington (6-7) is seeking a fifth win in a row to get to .500. Seattle got back on track last weekend with a 40-3 victory against the winless New York Jets as Russell Wilson threw four touchdown passes and the defense allowed just 185 total yards. Wilson has already set career highs in both TD passes (36) and interceptions (12). Washington won 23-15 last Sunday at San Francisco, despite QB Alex Smith missing the second half with a calf injury. Coach Ron Rivera said Smith could be a game-time decision this week, with Dwayne Haskins ready to take over. The victory was Washington’s first on the road without an offensive TD since 1992. Kamren Curl returned an interception 76 yards for a score and fellow rookie Chase Young recovered a fumble and went 47 yards to the end zone. Washington rookie RB Antonio Gibson is tied for third in the NFL with 11 rushing TDs, but he missed last week’s game and practice time this week with turf toe. Seattle CB Quinton Dunbar is expected to return to face his former team after missing four games with a knee injury. Something to watch: The Seahawks’ red-zone offense is second in the league at 74.5%, while Washington red-zone defense is tied for second-best at 50%.

Detroit Lions v Tennessee Titans

Nissan Stadium | 5:00am AEDT

Tennessee (9-4) has a chance to secure a playoff berth this weekend when it hosts the Detroit Lions (5-8). However, Tennessee will need some help, such as a Baltimore Ravens’ loss against the underdog Jacksonville Jaguars. Regardless, the Titans are on the right path to the postseason, and they can boost their chances considerably by knocking off the rebuilding Lions this week. Detroit has enjoyed better performances under interim coach Darrell Bevell, who is 1-1 since taking over for Matt Patricia. But the Titans have talent on both sides of the ball, and significantly more motivation to win this week. Look for another busy day from Tennessee running back Derrick Henry, who rushed for a whopping 215 yards and two touchdowns a week ago. Henry is the first player in NFL history with four games with 200-plus rushing yards and two-plus touchdowns.

New York Jets v Los Angeles Rams

SoFi Stadium | 8:05am AEDT

The biggest incentive for the Los Angeles Rams this week in their home game against the New York Jets is that a victory gets them back into the playoffs after missing out last season. If that isn’t enough of a motivator against a winless Jets squad, the Rams also know that a victory sets up a Week 16 showdown with the Seattle Seahawks for the NFC West title. The Rams defense has been the star the show this season, leading the NFL in yards allowed per game (285.8) and passing yards per game (191.7). The unit is third in points allowed (18.9) and total sacks (42). Rookie running back Cam Akers is coming off a 171-yard performance in a victory over the Patriots, while QB Jared Goff is eighth in the NFL with 269.9 passing yards per game. The Jets now face the Rams’ formidable pass defense one game after they totaled 116 yards in the air against the Seahawks’ NFL-worst pass defense. New York’s own pass defense, which is second to last in the NFL, likely won’t do them any favors this week. Jets QB San Darnold returns to his Southern California roots, and he could use any sense of comfort he can get in a season with five TD passes and nine interceptions.

Cleveland Browns v New York Giants

MetLife Stadium | 12:20pm AEDT

Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns will play a primetime game for the second time in as many games on Sunday night when they visit the New York Giants in East Rutherford, N.J. Mayfield played well under the lights on Monday, rolling up a season-high 343 passing yards to go along with three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) in a 47-42 loss to Baltimore. The high-scoring setback snapped a sterling four-game winning streak for the Browns (9-4), who remain in contention for their first playoff berth since the 2002 season. The powerhouse tandem of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt guide the NFL’s third-ranked rushing attack, however the Giants’ boast the league’s seventh-best rush defense. New York hope to counter with Daniel Jones under center, however the second-year quarterback is being plagued by both an ailing hamstring and a sprained ankle. Former Browns draft pick Colt McCoy will get the nod if Jones is unable to play for the Giants (5-8). New York needs to locate its offense after mustering just 43 points over its last three games, including just one touchdown in a 26-7 setback to Arizona on Sunday.–Field Level Media

Kansas City Chiefs v New Orleans Saints

Mercedes-Benz Superdome | 8:25am AEDT

The Kansas City Chiefs aim to record their ninth consecutive victory when they visit the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Kansas City is battling for the No. 1 seed for the AFC playoffs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes is leading the way for an offense that leads the NFL in total offense (429.2 yards per game) and ranks second in scoring (31.0 points per game). Mahomes has thrown for a league-high 4,208 yards to go with 33 touchdowns and just five interceptions. Star tight end Travis Kelce leads the NFL with 1,250 yards and wideout Tyreek Hill (1,158 yards) is tied for the NFL lead with 14 touchdown catches. Linebacker Damien Wilson (knee) could miss his second straight game. New Orleans (10-3) is bracing for the return of quarterback Drew Brees, who has missed the past four games with 11 broken ribs and a punctured lung. Saints coach Sean Payton hasn’t ruled Brees in or out yet for this clash and Taysom Hill is receiving lots of work in case he needs to be the starter. Hill passed for a career-best 291 yards in last Sunday’s loss against the Philadelphia Eagles and had two touchdowns but he was sacked five times, tossed one interception and lost a fumble. The loss snapped a nine-game winning streak for the Saints. Running back Alvin Kamara (723 rushing yards, 699 receiving yards) is just three receptions away from reaching 80 catches for the fourth straight season.

Chicago Bears v Minnesota Vikings

U.S. Bank Stadium | 5:00am AEDT

Both 6-7 and one game out of the final NFC wild card spot, the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings will try to remain in the postseason hunt when they meet at Minnesota’s U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday. The Vikings are coming off a 26-14 road loss at Tampa Bay in which plackekicker Dan Bailey missed three field goals and an extra point. Running back Dalvin Cook, tied for the league lead with 14 rushing touchdowns, has run for at least 100 yards in three of the past four games. The Bears could be depleted on defense, as linebacker Khalil Mack (shoulder) and defensive backs Jaylon Johnson (shoulder) and Buster Skrine (concussion protocol) were among Thursday’s practice inactives. Since re-taking the reins as starting quarterback in Week 12, Chicago’s Mitch Trubisky has passed for at least 242 yards in the past three games, and last week was 24-for-33 for 267 yards and three touchdowns to steer the Bears to a 36-7 home rout against Houston to snap a six-game losing streak. Minnesota edged host Chicago 19-13 in Week 10, keeping the Bears at bay down the stretch while outgaining them 385-149. The Vikings are seeking the first season sweep of their NFC North rivals since 2017. Minnesota linebacker Eric Kendricks (calf) and tight end Kyle Rudolph (foot) missed practice Thursday.

New England Patriots v Miami Dolphins

Hard Rock Stadium | 5:00am AEDT

The Miami Dolphins aim to keep their postseason aspirations afloat on Sunday when they host the New England Patriots. New England (6-7) got the better of Miami (8-5) in Week 1, with Cam Newton rushing for a season-high 75 yards and two touchdowns. The former NFL MVP hasn’t fared as well of late, with questions circling about whether he would be under center after he was pulled in the Patriots’ 24-3 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Dec. 10. Miami rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is coming off his best passing performance of his young career, albeit in a loss. The fifth overall pick threw for a season-best 316 yards in a 33-27 loss to Kansas City on Sunday, with two touchdown passes going to tight end Mike Gesicki. The Dolphins are clinging to the seventh and final playoff spot in the AFC, although they hold the tiebreaker of Baltimore based on best win percentage in conference games. Sunday’s contest features Miami’s Xavien Howard (league-best nine interceptions) on defense, while New England counters with J.C. Jackson (seven interceptions) and reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore.–Field Level Media

Houston Texans v Indianapolis Colts

Lucas Oil Stadium | 5:00am AEDT

Two weeks after Deshaun Watson’s fumble near the goal line vs. the Colts dashed the team’s hopes with the game hanging in the balance, the Houston Texans get a quick chance at revenge when they travel to Indianapolis. Watson threw for 341 yards in that game, which gives him something to relate back to other than getting sacked six times against the Bears last week in a brutal 36-7 defeat that ended Houston’s playoff chances. While Watson is second in the NFL with 3,761 yards passing, he has been sacked 39 times and the Texans are last in the NFL with 1,121 yards rushing. Savvy veteran QB Philip Rivers continues to get it done in his first season with the Colts with two or more TD passes in four consecutive games and in six of his last eight. After catching zero TD passes over the first nine games, veteran wideout T.Y. Hilton has four in his last three contests, including two in a victory over the Raiders last week. The Colts had 456 yards of total offense against the Raiders and head coach Frank Reich said his team finally is showing its true identity. The Colts rushing attack had 212 yards on the ground this past Sunday.

Carolina Panthers v Green Bay Packers

Lambeau Field | 12:15pm AEDT

The Green Bay Packers (10-3) already have clinched a playoff berth and the NFC North title as they enter this weekend’s matchup against the struggling Carolina Panthers (4-9). Could that portend a possible letdown game for the Packers? It’s doubtful. Green Bay still has plenty to play for as it looks to secure the No. 1 overall seed in the conference, which would mean a bye in the first round of the playoffs. Besides, Aaron Rodgers is too proud to put forth a ho-hum effort in December with the postseason looming. Carolina, meanwhile, is more focused on its position in next year’s NFL draft than it is on the win-loss column for the rest of 2020. Star running back Christian McCaffrey, the engine of the Panthers’ offense, will remain out because of a quadriceps injury. Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will get another chance to improve upon his 3-9 record as a starter this season, but thus far he has struggled to take command after Carolina handed him the keys to the offense during the offseason. One interesting matchup to watch will be Davante Adams against the Carolina secondary. Adams has caught a touchdown in eight straight games, which is tied for the third-longest, single-season streak in NFL history.

Buffalo Bills v Denver Broncos

Empower Field at Mile High | 8:30am AEDT

The Buffalo Bills will go for their fourth win in a row when they visit the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Buffalo (10-3) also has a chance to post its first 11-win season since 1999, when Doug Flutie served as starting quarterback. Meanwhile, Denver (5-8) has a chance to put together back-to-back wins for only the second time this season. Buffalo is particularly motivated this week, as a victory would clinch the AFC East title for the franchise that long struggled in the shadow of Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Speaking of the Patriots, if they beat the Miami Dolphins this weekend, the Bills also clinch a division title regardless of whether they win or lose against the Broncos. The Bills have won four of their past five matchups against Denver, including thier last meeting in 2019, when Buffalo cruised to a 20-3 win. The Broncos will look for more solid play from quarterback Drew Lock, who is looking for his third game in a row with at least two touchdown passes.

San Francisco 49ers v Dallas Cowboys

AT&T Stadium | 5:00am AEDT

The San Francisco 49ers (5-8) are two games out of the final NFC playoff spot and in desperate need of a season-ending, three-game winning streak as they venture to Dallas on Sunday. The 49ers probably are glad to get out of Glendale, Ariz., where they have been beaten by Buffalo and Washington the last two weeks. 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan admitted this week he considered a quarterback change in the wake of Nick Mullens’ two-turnover effort that Washington turned into two scores in last week’s 23-15 defeat. But there will be no change, Shanahan announced Wednesday, leaving C.J. Beathard as the backup. The 49ers would love to get their running game going, but this week likely will have to do so without Raheem Mostert, who suffered a knee injury in the Washington game. Jeff Wilson Jr. takes over as the primary back. Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys (4-9) would like to win consecutive games for the first time this season and keep their NFC East title hopes alive when they host the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. Dallas is coming off its most impressive effort of the season in a 30-7 road romp over Cincinnati. One week after getting steamrolled by Baltimore’s running game (294 yards), the Cowboys held the Bengals to 101 yards on the ground and forced three turnovers, winning the turnover battle for just the third time all season. Veteran Andy Dalton was the key to a turnover-free offense, making good use of Amari Cooper (four catches for 51 yards and a touchdown) while going 16-for-23 for 185 yards and two scores. Ezekiel Elliott (12) and Tony Pollard (11) basically split carries in the win, with 26 of Elliott’s 48 yards coming on one run.

Jacksonville Jaguars v Baltimore Ravens

M&T Bank Stadium | 5:00am AEDT

The Ravens (8-5) will go for their third-straight win when they host the plummeting Jaguars (1-12) on Sunday afternoon. Baltimore is looking to make the playoffs for a third straight year but is behind Cleveland (9-4), Indianapolis (9-4) and Miami (8-5) for the three wild-card spots. Lamar Jackson is coming off one of his best performances of the season in a 47-42 win over Cleveland. Jackson threw for 163 yards, rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns and returned to the dominant player who fueled the Ravens’ 14-2 season last year. Jackson recorded a 99.5 QBR, the highest rating of any quarterback this season. The Jaguars have shuffled starting quarterbacks this season and will do so yet again in Week 15, handing the offense back to Gardner Minshew, who will replace Mike Glennon, as Jacksonville looks to snap a 12-game losing streak. Minshew has thrown for 2,033 yards with 14 touchdowns and five interceptions. Jacksonville’s lone bright spot has been undrafted rookie James Robinson, who is third in the league in rushing with 1,035 yards, to go along with seven touchdowns. Robinson is just the fourth undrafted rookie in league history to rush for more than 1,000 yards in his first year, and he is well on pace to break the league mark set by the Colts’ Dominic Rhodes, who ran for 1,104 yards as a rookie in 2001. This is the first meeting between the teams since Sept. 24, 2017, when the Jaguars rolled to a 44-7 victory in London.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers v Atlanta Falcons

Mercedes-Benz Stadium | 5:00am AEDT

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-5) will try to solve the Atlanta Falcons (4-9) this weekend when the teams meet in the Peach State. Tampa Bay has lost six of its last seven matchups against Atlanta, including their last meeting in 2019, when the Falcons prevailed with a 28-22 win in overtime. Atlanta holds a narrow 28-25 lead in the all-time series. The difference this year could be the presence of Tom Brady, who has passed for 13 toucdhowns with only two interceptions against the Falcons in his career. He famously passed for 466 yards against the Falcons in Super Bowl LI. Brady’s top target this season is Mike Evans, who ranks fourth in the NFL with 11 receiving touchdowns. Atlanta is led by quarterback Matt Ryan, who needs 340 passing yards to become the second quarterback in history with 10 straight seasons of 4,000-plus yards. The only other signal-caller to do it is Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints.

Philadelphia Eagles v Arizona Cardinals

State Farm Stadium | 8:05am AEDT

The Philadelphia Eagles are in a desperate situation as they venture west to visit the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The Eagles (4-8-1) remain in the NFC East race due to the entire division’s ineptitude but they can’t afford another setback with the Washington Football Team (6-7) in the midst of a four-game winning streak. Philadelphia halted a four-game slide last weekend with a solid 24-21 win over the New Orleans Saints as quarterback Jalen Hurts fared well in his first career start ahead of benched Carson Wentz. Hurts passed for 167 yards and rushed for 106 to join Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson as the only quarterbacks to rush for 100 or more yards in a first career start. Meanwhile, the status of cornerback Darius Slay (concussion) won’t be known until later in the week. Arizona (7-6) is feeling refreshed after a solid 26-7 win over the New York Giants halted a three-game losing streak. The Cardinals racked up eight sacks against New York with linebacker Haason Reddick having a career game with a franchise-record five sacks in addition to forcing a career-best three fumbles. Reddick is sixth in the NFL with 10 sacks. Quarterback Kyler Murray has passed for 3,231 yards and 23 touchdowns against 10 interceptions but has exceeded 300 yards just twice all season. Murray’s partnership with wideout DeAndre Hopkins is certainly blossoming as Hopkins ranks third in the NFL with 94 receptions and fifth with 1,155 receiving yards.
