New Orleans Saints VS Minnesota Vikings
Mercedes-Benz Superdome | 8:30am AEDT
The Vikings (6-8) find themselves on the brink of elimination from playoff contention after two straight losses. They need to win their last two games and get a lot of help. The defense has been short-handed because of injuries, including the absence of star LB Eric Kendricks, and gave up 146 rushing yards to the Bears’ David Montgomery last week. The offense is fifth in the league in yards per game led by two Pro Bowlers in RB Dalvin Cook and rookie WR Justin Jefferson, but has been hampered by red-zone failures. Last week it scored just two touchdowns in four goal-to-go situations. The Saints (10-4) have lost two in a row, but they are in the playoffs and can clinch the NFC South by winning Friday. Drew Brees returned last week from a four-game absence due to rib and lung injuries and started slowly against Kansas City. He finished 15 of 24 for 234 yards with 3 touchdowns and an interception. All-Pro receiver Michael Thomas is on injured reserve, making RB Alvin Kamara, who has more than 700 yards rushing and more than 700 yards receiving and has scored 15 touchdowns, even more important. The defense, led by end Cameron Jordan and LB Demario Davis in sixth in scoring (21.2).
