Sacramento Kings v Houston Rockets

The Sacramento Kings will get a shot at revenge when they get an instant rematch with the Rockets Houston on Saturday at Houston. Houston’s John Wall, who was playing for the first time since Dec. 26, 2018 following surgery on a ruptured Achilles, scored 22 points against the Kings in a 122-109 Rockets victory Thursday. DeMarcus Cousins, also making his Rockets debut, had eight points. James Harden led the way for the Rockets with 33 points, while Christian Wood registered a 21-point, 12-rebound double-double. Houston had 12 players available for the first time after a roster scramble while dealing with COVID-19 issues to begin the season. The Rockets, who opened with losses at Portland and Denver, out-shot the Kings 52.3 percent to 46.9, with Wood connecting on nine of his 14 shots. Seven Kings scored eight or more points in a balanced attack that was paced by Harrison Barnes with 24 points. De’Aaron Fox and Richaun Holmes had 22 points each. Buddy Hield and Fox both misfired on potential game-tying 3-pointers inside of the final 7.3 seconds. The Kings are no strangers to playing consecutive games against the same opponent. They split with the Suns in a two-night sequence last week, winning by three before losing by 16.

New York Knicks v Indiana Pacers

The Indiana Pacers aim to defeat the New York Knicks for the second time this season when the Eastern Conference foes meet at Indianapolis on Saturday. Domantas Sabonis collected a career-high 32 points to go along with 13 rebounds in the Pacers’ 121-107 victory over the Knicks on Dec. 23, which was the season opener for both teams. On Thursday, Sabonis recorded his fifth double-double in as many games this season with 25 points and 11 boards on Thursday as Indiana responded following its lone loss with a 119-99 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Victor Oladipo had 16 points versus the Cavaliers and had 22 points in the season opener against New York. The Knicks saw their two-game winning streak come to a halt Thursday with a 100-83 setback to the Toronto Raptors. Julius Randle matched Kevin Knox II with 16 points, while adding 10 rebounds and five assists. Second-year pro RJ Barrett struggled from the floor on Thursday, finishing with 12 points after going 4 of 19 from the floor while misfiring on all eight 3-point attempts. Barrett wasn’t alone in struggling from beyond the arc. The Knicks made 3 of 36 attempts from 3-point range. Barrett had a team-leading 26 points in the opener against the Pacers.

Oklahoma City Thunder v Orlando Magic

The Oklahoma City Thunder will begin a five-game road trip when they visit the Orlando Magic on Saturday evening. Oklahoma City is looking to snap a three-game skid that includes home losses against the Utah Jazz, the Magic and the New Orleans Pelicans. Meanwhile, Orlando will try to bounce from its first loss of the season after falling short 116-92 against the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday night. That knocked the Magic off their perch as the sole team atop the Eastern Conference standings. This will be the second meeting in five days between the Thunder and the Magic. In the first game Tuesday night at Oklahoma City, the Magic held on for a 118-107 win. Nikola Vucevic had a dominant effort with 28 points and 10 rebounds in the first meeting for Orlando, and Markelle Fultz also posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led Oklahoma City with 23 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, and Isaiah Roby scored 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting. The teams met twice last season, with the Thunder winning 102-94 at home and winning 120-114 on the road. Oklahoma City has been without Trevor Ariza (personal reasons) and Ty Jerome (ankle).

Charlotte Hornets v Philadelphia 76ers

After making a season-high 15 3-pointers in Thursday’s road rout of the Orlando Magic, the Philadelphia 76ers will look to maintain their hot shooting Saturday as they play host the Charlotte Hornets in the first game of a back-to-back series. Philadelphia shot 48.4 percent overall Thursday, and its long-range barrage included just the 10th 3-point attempt of Dwight Howard’s career as well as a make from Ben Simmons, who traditionally has struggled with his shot from deep. The Hornets are coming off Friday’s 108-93 home loss to Memphis, scuffling against a Grizzlies team that dressed just nine players after seven were ruled out due to health or injury reasons. Charlotte had five players finish in double figures but shot just 40.7 percent. Bismack Biyombo notched a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds, while LaMelo Ball added 15 points and six assists. The Hornets, who trailed by as many as 24 points Friday, begin a four-game road trip, while Saturday’s contest marks the beginning of a three-game homestand for Philadelphia. It also is the start of a stretch that will see the 76ers play six of eight at home. Charlotte’s four-game streak of reaching triple digits in points was snapped Friday.

Cleveland Cavaliers v Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks aim to continue their strong start when they host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday in the opener of a three-game homestand. Atlanta sits at 4-1 after a solid 114-96 road victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Friday. It was a much-improved showing from two nights earlier when the Hawks’ defense was missing in action in a 145-141 loss to the Nets. De’Andre Hunter scored a season-high 23 points on 9-of-10 shooting on Friday while Trae Young added 21 points and seven assists and John Collins recorded 20 points and eight rebounds. Danilo Gallinari (ankle) sat out after being injured Wednesday and could miss the game with Cleveland. The Cavaliers have dropped their last two games after winning their first three. Collin Sexton has been superb with a 25.8 scoring average and has tallied at least 20 points in all five games. Sexton scored 28 points in Thursday’s 119-99 loss to the Indiana Pacers in the opener of a six-game road trip. Darius Garland equaled his career high of five 3-pointers while scoring 21 points and has topped 20 three times. The 20-year-old Garland is averaging 19 points, a solid increase from last season’s 12.3. Cleveland won both of last season’s meetings.

Toronto Raptors v New Orleans Pelicans

After an eventful close to 2020, the Toronto Raptors will move into the new year with a matchup at New Orleans on Saturday. The Raptors picked up their first victory of the season on New Year’s Eve, a 100-83 triumph over the New York Knicks at their adopted home of Tampa, Fla. The victory came without All-Star forward Pascal Siakam, who was benched for undisclosed disciplinary reasons. Fred VanVleet scored 25 points and was 4 of 9 from 3-point range in the victory over the Knicks. Kyle Lowry added 20 points. Saturday’s matchup will be the second between the teams this season. The Pelicans earned a 113-99 victory over the Raptors on Dec. 23 in the season opener for both teams. New Orleans’ Brandon Ingram scored 24 points in the first matchup, while JJ Reddick had 23 and hit six 3-pointers in the regular-season debut of new Pelicans head coach Stan Van Gundy. New Orleans will enter off a 113-80 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday when Ingram led the way again with 20 points. Eric Bledsoe had 17 points for New Orleans and Lonzo Ball had 16 points, nine assists and eight rebounds in his best overall game of the season.
