Detroit Pistons rookie Killian Hayes will be out at least four to six weeks with a torn labrum in his right hip, Yahoo Sports reported Wednesday.
Surgery remains an option and could cause the 19-year-old point guard to miss the rest of the 2020-21 season, per the report. The Pistons are sending Hayes to meet with a specialist for further evaluation.
Hayes sustained the non-contact injury during Monday night’s loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.
Selected with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Hayes started Detroit’s first seven games and averaged 4.6 points, 3.6 assists, 1.1 rebounds and 21.1 minutes per contest.
Early in the second half of Monday’s 125-115 loss, Hayes crumpled to the court while pursuing Bucks guard Jrue Holiday in transition after a Pistons turnover. He grabbed at his upper right thigh and hip and grimaced in obvious pain as medical staff attended to the situation. He eventually walked off under his own power.
