The Dallas Cowboys plan to hire ex-Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn as their next defensive coordinator, according to a report from ESPN on Monday night.
Quinn went 43-42 in five-plus seasons with the Falcons before he was dismissed after an 0-5 start to the 2020 campaign. He took the Falcons to the Super Bowl in the 2016 season, but Atlanta blew a 28-3 lead against the New England Patriots to miss a chance for the franchise’s first championship.
In Dallas, Quinn will succeed Mike Nolan, who was fired earlier this week.
The Cowboys gave up 473 points this season, the most ever in franchise history. Dallas also finished No. 31 in run defense.
Before taking the Falcons’ head coaching job, Quinn served as the Seattle Seahawks’ defensive coordinator in 2013 and 2014. He relied on a 4-3 defensive scheme and helped Seattle reach the Super Bowl in back-to-back seasons.
