Boston Celtics v San Antonio Spurs

AT&T Center | 12:30pm AEDT

Jayson Tatum has returned and the Boston Celtics look ready to push forward again with their next test on the road Wednesday against the San Antonio Spurs. Tatum missed five consecutive games after contracting COVID-19 and the Celtics lost three of them. He returned Monday and scored 24 points in a 119-103 victory at Chicago, admitting to being winded at times. Jaylen Brown had 26 points as Boston has won two consecutive games after a three-game losing streak. Marcus Smart tied a career high with 11 assists against the Bulls and added 13 points. Boston guard Kemba Walker, who had a left knee injury earlier in the season, was given a night off. The Spurs return to action after their game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday was postponed. Neither team had eight available players because of COVID-19 protocols. The Spurs have won three of their last five and enter off Sunday’s convincing 121-101 victory at home over the Washington Wizards. Patty Mills led the Spurs with 21 points off the bench, while seven players were in double digits, including Lonnie Walker IV, who had 16, and Dejounte Murray, who had his second career triple-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

Denver Nuggets v Miami Heat

American Airlines Arena | 11:30am AEDT

The Denver Nuggets attempt to stretch their season-long winning streak to five games when they visit the Miami Heat on Wednesday. Denver beat the Dallas Mavericks 117-113 on Monday to improve to 3-0 on a five-game road trip that concludes Friday in San Antonio. Michael Porter Jr. starred in Monday’s win as he matched his season high of 30 points and knocked down a career-best six 3-pointers. The outburst occurred in Porter’s third game since returning from a 10-game absence due to COVID-19 issues. The status of Jamal Murray is in doubt after he was ejected in the third quarter of Monday’s game for elbowing Tim Hardaway Jr. in the groin. Miami has lost three straight games and six of eight and will be without Jimmy Butler for the ninth straight game due to COVID-19 issues. Avery Bradley (COVID-19 protocols) is listed as questionable as are Goran Dragic (groin) and Tyler Herro (neck). Big man Bam Adebayo is fine and he averaged 33.5 points in a back-to-back set against the Brooklyn Nets, scoring a career-best 41 points in Saturday’s first contest of the set. Adebayo has scored 26 or more points in four of the past six games. The teams split two meetings last season.

Dallas Mavericks v Utah Jazz

Vivint Smart Home Arena | 1:00pm AEDT

The Utah Jazz go for a 10th — and 11th — straight win when they tip off a two-game set against the visiting Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday. Utah opened a back-to-back with a 108-94 home triumph over New York on Tuesday, rallying from a fourth-quarter deficit. Rudy Gobert was a terror at both ends against the Knicks, recording 18 points, 19 rebounds and four blocks. He has averaged a double-double — 11.2 points and 14.6 rebounds — during Utah’s nine-game winning streak. Despite the competitiveness of the game, the Jazz were able to keep playing times reasonable, with no starter going more than 35 minutes. The Mavericks have lost two in a row, but should benefit Wednesday not only by being the fresher team, but also by the expected returns of Dwight Powell and Josh Richardson from COVID-related issues. The Mavericks also hope to get more production from Kristaps Porzingis than he contributed in Monday’s loss to the Nuggets, when he had just 16 points and six rebounds. The Jazz got 22 points and 17 rebounds from Gobert, while holding Porzingis to 15, in their only meeting in Salt Lake City last season. Luka Doncic has faced the Jazz just four times in his career, never recording a double-double.

Brooklyn Nets v Atlanta Hawks

State Farm Arena | 11:30am AEDT

The Brooklyn Nets will feature a different look when they face the Hawks for the third time this season Wednesday in Atlanta. The teams split a pair in Brooklyn in an earlier two-game set. The Nets got 58 points from Kevin Durant (33) and Kyrie Irving (25) in a 145-141 win in the opener. They also got 25 from Jarrett Allen (15) and Caris LeVert (10), two guys no longer with the team. Atlanta limited Durant (28) and Irving (18) to a more reasonable 46 in a 114-96 win in the rematch. The Nets had big issues with John Collins, who put up a total of 50 points and 18 rebounds. On the first night of a back-to-back that featured fans in Atlanta’s State Farm Arena for the first time this season, Collins had an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double to complement a career-high five blocks Tuesday in a win over the Clippers. He had 33 points the last time the Hawks and Nets met in Atlanta last February. The Hawks will be seeing James Harden in a Brooklyn uniform for the first time. He had a run of five triple- or double-doubles end on a 20-point, eight-assist night when the Nets completed a two-game sweep of Miami on Monday.

Milwaukee Bucks v Toronto Raptors

Amalie Arena | 11:30am AEDT

The Toronto Raptors will return to their temporary home of Tampa, Fla., on Wednesday to play host to the Milwaukee Bucks. The Raptors have won four of their last five in their rental digs after losing two of their first three. Toronto is coming off a split of a back-to-back at Indiana, where they won the first but dropped a 129-114 decision to the Pacers on Monday. Pascal Siakam (knee) missed his second consecutive game while Fred VanVleet scored 25 points with six assists. The Raptors were outscored 31-17 in the fourth quarter and gave up a season high in points. Norman Powell scored 24 points for Toronto but Kyle Lowry was held to 12 in a sluggish return from a toe infection. Lowry is two points shy of 10,000 as a member of the Raptors. The Bucks enter off a 129-115 home victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday, rebounding from consecutive defeats against the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 27 points against the Hawks to match his season average while adding 14 rebounds and eight assists. The Bucks are starting a three-game road swing and are opening a stretch where they play nine of their next 11 games on the road.

Detroit Pistons v Cleveland Cavaliers

Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse | 11:00am AEDT

The Detroit Pistons look to record back-to-back wins for the first time in over a calendar year on Wednesday when they visit the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Pistons snapped their second four-game losing skid of the season with a 119-104 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday. Delon Wright collected a career-high 28 points, nine assists and seven rebounds in that contest while Jerami Grant added 25 points and eight boards. Grant, who averages a team-best 24.3 points per game, had 28 points and 10 rebounds in Detroit’s 128-119 double-overtime loss to Cleveland on Dec. 26. Mason Plumlee had nine rebounds in that contest and is averaging a team-high 8.6 on the season. Collin Sexton had 32 points in the first meeting with the Pistons and Andre Drummond recorded 23 points, 16 rebounds, five assists, four steals and three blocks against his former team. Drummond, who is averaging a career-high 18.7 points per game, added 25 points and 17 rebounds in the Cavaliers’ 115-108 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday. Darius Garland is showing signs of returning to form after missing time with a sprained right shoulder. Minnesota Timberwolves v Golden State Warriors

Chase Center | 2:00pm AEDT

After battling basically to a draw in their first NBA encounter, top rookies Anthony Edwards and James Wiseman get a rematch when the Timberwolves and Warriors duel again Wednesday night in San Francisco. The Warriors won the opener of the three-day, two-game sequence 130-108, with Stephen Curry bombing in 36 points. Andrew Wiggins, facing his old team for the first time since being traded last February, contributed 23 points to a win that snapped Golden State’s two-game losing streak. Wiseman had 13 points, two fewer than the 15 Edwards put up for the Timberwolves. Malik Beasley had 30 points for Minnesota, making 10 of his 18 shots and four 3-pointers. His teammates didn’t give him nearly enough offensive support, combining for 29-for-76 shooting (38.2 percent) and just equaling his 3-point total. D’Angelo Russell, who was dealt from Golden State to Minnesota in the Wiggins trade, watched Monday’s reunion from the sidelines with a bruised quad. The Timberwolves hope to have him back on the court for the rematch. The NBA’s new version of a double-header already is nothing new to either team. The Warriors have split each of two previous such sequences a game apiece, while the Timberwolves have gone 1-1 and 0-2.

Oklahoma City Thunder v Phoenix Suns

Phoenix Suns Arena | 1:00pm AEDT

Looking to repeat the success they showed at the start of the season, the Phoenix Suns will play host to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday. The Suns have lost four of their last five games, but look close to emerging again after back-to-back overtime defeats to the Denver Nuggets. Chris Paul and Jae Crowder each scored 21 points in Saturday’s 120-112 double-overtime loss to the Nuggets, while Paul added 13 assists and Deandre Ayton had 17 points with 13 rebounds. Leading scorer Devin Booker did not play Saturday because of a hamstring strain. Phoenix has just started a stretch where it will have 11 of 14 games at home. The Thunder come to Phoenix following a 125-122 victory at Portland on Monday. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had 24 points and Mike Muscala had 23 after making a career-best six 3-pointers. Gilgeous-Alexander is scoring a career-best 21.9 points per game with 5.4 rebounds and 6.4 assists. The Thunder were missing a pair of key players Monday. Al Horford (11.1 points, 7.1 rebounds) has been out since Jan. 15 for the birth of his daughter, while George Hill (11.8 points) also was out Monday with a strained right thumb. Both are listed as day-to-day. Oklahoma City is 1-3 on a five-game road trip.

Los Angeles Lakers v Philadelphia 76ers

Wells Fargo Center | 11:30am AEDT

The Los Angeles Lakers figure to be dealing with plenty of emotions when they take the court Wednesday for a road game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Monday was the one-year anniversary of the death of Lakers legend Kobe Bryant and both LeBron James and Anthony Davis expressed in recent days they still are having trouble processing the tragedy. The Lakers are coming off a 115-108 victory at Cleveland on Monday. James scored 46 points against his former team, admitting that his 21-point fourth quarter was inspired by a Cavaliers front-office member that expressed delight over a missed 3-pointer in the third quarter. Los Angeles is 10-0 on the road. The 76ers have fared much better after an early January lull, winning five of their last seven, but they enter off a 119-104 defeat at Detroit on Monday that was the second game of a back-to-back between the teams. Joel Embiid missed the game with back tightness after carrying the Sixers to a 114-110 victory over the Pistons on Saturday with 33 points and 14 rebounds. Embiid is listed day-to-day and is likely to play Wednesday. Tobias Harris had 25 points for Philadelphia on Monday, one off his season high, while Tyrese Maxey had 17 points.

Amway Center | 11:00am AEDT

The Sacramento Kings finally get their road trip moving when they face the Orlando Magic on Wednesday. Sacramento was slated to go on a six-game excursion but two games against Memphis were postponed at the outset due to the Grizzlies’ COVID-19 issues to knock it down to a four-game swing. The Kings last played on Friday when they posted a 103-94 home win over the New York Knicks to follow a stretch in which they lost nine of the previous 11 games. Harrison Barnes had a solid all-around game with 21 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. De’Aaron Fox had a team-best 22 points to go with seven assists. Orlando won both meetings with Sacramento last season and last played on Monday when it made a season-best 19 3-pointers in a 117-108 home win over the Charlotte Hornets. Following the 128-107 win over the Phoenix Suns 16 days ago, Washington had six consecutive games postponed due to COVID-19 issues before resuming play and losing two games by an average of 19.5 points. The second was Tuesday’s 107-88 setback against the host Houston Rockets. Bradley Beal poured in 33 points for the Wizards and he has tallied at least 25 in all 12 of his appearances this season. Russell Westbrook had 19 points against the Rockets, the team he played for last season. New Orleans had its Monday home game against the San Antonio Spurs postponed when neither team had the mandatory eight players due to COVID-19 issues. Indiana Pacers v Charlotte Hornets

Spectrum Center | 11:00am AEDT

The Indiana Pacers look to continue their success away from home on Wednesday night when they visit the Hornets in Charlotte, N.C. The Pacers won four of their first five games outside of Indianapolis before dropping a 129-96 decision to the Los Angeles Clippers on Jan. 17. The Pacers recorded a split on its ensuing four-game homestand, capped by a 129-114 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Monday. Malcolm Brogdon answered a season-low 12-point performance in Sunday’s 107-102 setback to the Raptors on Sunday by erupting for 36 points the following night. Indiana may be without All-Star forward Domantas Sabonis, who sustained a left knee contusion in the first quarter of Monday’s contest. While the Pacers are dealing with injuries, the Hornets have lost five of their last six contests following a season-high four-game winning streak. His team’s troubles aside, Gordon Hayward aims to continue a torrid four-game stretch in which he averaged 30.5 points while shooting 58.1 percent from the floor. While Hayward leads the team in average points per game at 24.1, point guard Devonte’ Graham has a club-best 6.2 assists.
