Golden State Warriors v Dallas Mavericks

American Airlines Center | 11:30am AEDT

Stephen Curry and Luka Doncic go head-to-head for just the third time in their careers when the Warriors visit the Mavericks on Thursday night, The clubs will meet in a rematch on Saturday, also at Dallas. Curry missed all three meetings with the Mavericks last season, games in which the Warriors lost by 48, 20 and 27 points. Doncic averaged 28.7 points, 10.0 rebounds and 9.3 assists in those wins. The last time Curry and Doncic dueled was Jan. 13, 2019, with Curry outscoring his rival 48-26 in a Golden State win. Curry also led a Warriors victory in their first meeting, which took place three weeks earlier, but only outscored the then-rookie 22-19. The Warriors enter the NBA-style double-double coming off a costly 111-107 loss to Boston at home on Tuesday, with starting center Kevon Looney suffering a sprained ankle that will keep him out at least two weeks. Both other centers on the Golden State roster — Marquese Chriss and James Wiseman — also are injured. The Warriors arrived in Dallas ahead of the Mavericks, who played — and won — at Atlanta on Wednesday. Kristaps Porzingis contributed 24 points and 11 rebounds to the win, which ended Dallas’ six-game losing streak.

Houston Rockets v Memphis Grizzlies

FedExForum | 1:00pm AEDT

John Wall will be well rested for his first career head-to-head with Ja Morant when the Rockets and Grizzlies tangle Thursday in Memphis. Wall was given the night off Wednesday on the front end of a back-to-back and watched Houston’s six-game winning streak come to an end in a 104-87 thumping at Oklahoma City. The veteran had contributed 18 points to a win over the Thunder on Monday, giving him an average of 19.3 points in his last four games. Morant endured one of the worst games of his young career in the Grizzlies’ most recent outing, a blowout loss at Indiana on Tuesday. He missed eight of his 10 shots and totaled just 10 points as Memphis had a seven-game winning streak snapped. Morant averaged 20.3 points when the Grizzlies went 2-1 against the Rockets last season. Those games included one of the then-rookie’s best outings with 26 points on 10-for-11 shooting in a home win. Wall sat out all of last season with an injury. Eric Gordon was Houston’s leading scorer during its winning streak, averaging 20.0 points per game. Brandon Clarke averaged a team-best 16.4 points during the Grizzlies’ seven-game run that ended Tuesday.

Denver Nuggets v Los Angeles Lakers

Staples Center | 2:00pm AEDT

The top two teams left standing in the Western Conference last season will meet for the first time in this campaign when the Los Angeles Lakers play host to the Denver Nuggets on Thursday. The Lakers dispatched the Nuggets in a five-game conference finals and went on to win the title. The Lakers are home after a 5-2 road trip that started Jan. 21. Their travels ended Monday with a 107-99 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. Anthony Davis scored 25 points and LeBron James added 21 as the dynamic duo continued to lead the way. James has scored 25.0 points per game this season with 7.7 rebounds and 7.5 assists, while Davis has added 22.3 points and 8.7 rebounds. After a brutally slow start, the Nuggets are much improved, winning six of their last seven, including a 128-117 decision Sunday that ended the Utah Jazz’s winning streak at 11 games. Nikola Jokic tied his career high with 47 points and added 12 rebounds. He has averaged 22.6 points, 11.8 rebounds and 8.6 assists this season. Portland Trail Blazers v Philadelphia 76ers

Wells Fargo Center | 12:00pm AEDT

Decimated by injuries but staying afloat in the Western Conference, the Portland Trail Blazers will go for their second straight victory Thursday as they visit the Philadelphia 76ers. Portland is 2-2 on a six-game road trip following Tuesday’s 132-121 victory at Washington. Damian Lillard scored 32 points and Gary Trent Jr. had 26 to lead six players in double figures, while Enes Kanter registered a double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds. Nassir Little (knee sprain) CJ McCollum (foot), Jusuf Nurkic (wrist), and Zach Collins (ankle) remain out for Portland, while Lillard (abdominal strain) and Derrick Jones Jr. (foot) are questionable. Philadelphia extended its winning streak to four on Wednesday with a 118-111 win at Charlotte, fueled by a double-double from Joel Embiid (34 points, 11 rebounds). It marked the sixth time this season Embiid has had at least 30 points and 10 boards. Philadelphia limited Charlotte to 13 first-quarter points, the fewest points in any quarter the club has yielded this season. Tobias Harris added 26 points, and with Embiid combined to go 18-for-19 from the free-throw line. The 76ers lead the all-time series 59-56. Utah Jazz v Atlanta Hawks

State Farm Arena | 11:30am AEDT

Seeking their 12th win in 13 games, the Utah Jazz will look to keep rolling Thursday as they visit the Atlanta Hawks to open a stretch of three road games in four days. Utah is coming off Tuesday’s 117-105 home win against the Detroit Pistons, as Donovan Mitchell paced the team with 32 points for his fourth 30-point game of the season. Royce O’Neale notched a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds. Utah leads the NBA with 16.9 3-point makes per game. Atlanta has lost two straight and three of four. The Hawks are coming off a 122-116 home loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday. John Collins (35 points, 12 rebounds); Kevin Huerter (21 points, 10 assists); and Clint Capela (10 points, 13 rebounds) each had double-doubles for the Hawks. Capela has finished with at least 10 boards in 17 successive games. That’s the longest active streak in the NBA and the largest such run by a Hawks player since Dwight Howard had a 19-game stretch in 2017. Onyeka Okongwu, the sixth overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, has missed two straight games with left Achilles soreness. The Jazz are 54-51 against the Hawks all time and have won two straight in the series.
