Portland Trail Blazers v Philadelphia 76ers

Moda Center | 2:00pm AEDT

The Philadelphia 76ers attempt to continue their torrid play when they visit the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday. Philadelphia has won six of its past seven games with the loss during that span coming at home against the Trail Blazers — 121-105 on Feb. 4. Portland won that contest despite star guard Damian Lillard sitting out with an abdominal injury. Lillard poured in 36 points on Tuesday as the Trail Blazers dispatched the visiting Orlando Magic 106-97. Carmelo Anthony had season bests of 23 points and five 3-pointers and also passed legendary Oscar Robertson (26,710) to move into 12th place on the all-time scoring list with 26,722 points. Anthony has topped 20 points in three of the last four games. Philadelphia big man Joel Embiid scored 25 points in Tuesday’s 119-111 road win over the Sacramento Kings and also registered season bests of 17 rebounds and six assists. Embiid has scored at least 30 points in eight of his past 11 appearances. Tobias Harris had 22 points and 10 rebounds versus the Kings for his third consecutive double-double and fifth of the season. Philadelphia gave up 71 first-half points before holding the Kings to 40 in the second. The Trail Blazers have won five of the past six meetings.

Detroit Pistons v Indiana Pacers

Little Caesars Arena | 12:00pm AEDT

The slumping Indiana Pacers strive to break a season-worst four-game losing streak when they visit the Detroit Pistons on Thursday. Indiana fell 104-94 to the host Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday for its sixth loss in seven games. The final score wasn’t indicative of how one-sided the game was in the first half as the Pacers shot just 25.6 percent from the field and trailed 62-30 at the break. Overall, Indiana set a season low for points for the second straight game — the Pacers lost 103-95 to the Utah Jazz on Sunday. Domantas Sabonis had 18 points and nine rebounds for Indiana. The Pistons halted a four-game slide with a 122-111 home win over the Nets on Tuesday. Jerami Grant matched his career high of 32 points for the second straight game and he is averaging 28 points over the past four games. Delon Wright added 22 points for the second consecutive contest and is averaging 9.5 assists during the stretch. Former star Blake Griffin scored just nine points and has failed to reach double digits in six of the past nine games. Little-used Jahlil Okafor underwent left knee surgery Wednesday and will miss six to eight weeks. Detroit went 3-1 against the Pacers last season.

Houston Rockets v Miami Heat

Toyota Center | 11:30am AEDT

The Miami Heat packed a season-high level of momentum for a seven-game trip that tips off Thursday night at the Houston Rockets. Miami has won its last three games, riding double-figure contributions from Bam Adebayo (21.3 points per game), Jimmy Butler (19.0), Kelly Olynyk (17.3), Kendrick Nunn (17.3) and Tyler Herro (16.0). Butler appears fully recovered from earlier COVID issues. He also has found time for at least eight rebounds and nine assists during the season-best winning streak. Miami remains without Goran Dragic (ankle) and Avery Bradley (calf) as it attempts to win at Houston for the first time in the last four years. The Rockets have lost three in a row without Christian Wood (ankle), who remains out indefinitely. They expect to get John Wall (ankle) back from a two-game absence, and hope DeMarcus Cousins can bounce back from a 1-for-8, seven-point outing in Tuesday’s 130-101 loss at New Orleans. The Rockets rested Victor Oladipo on the second night of a back-to-back Tuesday, so he should be primed to face his former Eastern Conference rival as well. The Rockets have lost four of five since a six-game winning streak, while the Heat have gone 4-2 since a five-game skid.

Boston Celtics v Toronto Raptors

TD Garden | 11:30am AEDT

Looking to regroup after completing a 2-3 road trip, the Boston Celtics will try for their first home victory since Jan. 24 on Thursday when they host the Toronto Raptors. The Celtics closed their five-game trip with two straight losses, the latest a 122-108 defeat at Utah on Tuesday. Returning from a two-game absence with left knee soreness, Jaylen Brown led Boston with 33 points, while Jayson Tatum followed with 23. Daniel Theis swished a career-best five 3-pointers. The Raptors also are no strangers to recent long-range success, hitting 19 3-pointers in Wednesday’s 137-115 rout of host Washington to improve to 4-1 on their six-game road trip. Norman Powell (28 points) and Pascal Siakam (26) both made three 3-pointers to lead seven Raptors in double figures. A hot start bolstered Toronto, which shot 65.2 percent in the first quarter and 59.2 percent in the opening half to win for the fifth time in six games. OG Anunoby (strained left calf) missed his eighth successive game for the Raptors. Boston leads the all-time series against Toronto 58-40, including a 126-114 win over the Raptors on Jan. 4 in Tampa, Fla. Tatum scored 40 points to outduel VanVleet, who paced the Raptors with 35 points.

Golden State Warriors v Orlando Magic

Chase Center | 2:00pm AEDT

The Orlando Magic will attempt to win at Golden State for the first time since 2012 when they take on the Warriors in a battle of injury-plagued teams on Thursday night. The Magic got 27 points from Nikola Vucevic and 22 from Terrence Ross in a 106-97 loss at Portland on Tuesday to open a four-game Western excursion. Emerging rookie Cole Anthony had to leave the game with a back injury, joining, among others, Aaron Gordon, Evan Fournier and Markelle Fultz on the sidelines. Vucevic has averaged 27.0 points and 15.0 rebounds in his last four games, and now faces a team missing its three centers — James Wiseman (wrist), Kevon Looney (ankle) and Marquese Chriss (leg) — to injury. The veteran big man has struggled in his career against the Warriors. He has 17 double-doubles in 25 games this season. The Warriors are opening a four-game homestand after splitting a pair of two-game sets in Dallas and San Antonio. Stephen Curry has propelled himself into the Most Valuable Player conversation with 27 or more points in seven straight games, including a 57-pointer in the second game at Dallas last Saturday. He’s averaged 34.6 points, making 43 3-pointers, over that seven-game stretch.
