Memphis Grizzlies v Sacramento Kings

Golden 1 Center | 2:00pm AEDT

The Memphis Grizzlies strive to put aside some recent difficulties when they visit the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night. The Grizzlies have dropped five of their last six games and lost 115-105 to the host Los Angeles Lakers on Friday despite jumping out to a 22-2 lead. But Memphis wilted in the second half as it had just nine available players. The shortages have led to Grayson Allen receiving more playing time and he is 11 of 22 from 3-point range while averaging 20.5 points over the past two games. Allen is in line for extended action again with De’Anthony Melton (shoulder) and Desmond Bane (death of family member) unavailable. The Kings have beaten Memphis three straight times and seven of the last nine. Sacramento is hoping to have star point guard De’Aaron Fox (knee) and post player Marvin Bagley III (calf) back in the lineup. Both players are listed as questionable after sitting out Friday’s 123-112 home loss to the Orlando Magic. Fox averaged 31.3 points over the previous six games and tallied 30 or more points in four of the contests. Rookie Tyrese Haliburton (14 points) started in Fox’s place. The Kings are 0-2 on a five-game homestand after prevailing in seven of the previous eight games.

Cleveland Cavaliers v Los Angeles Clippers

Staples Center | 2:00pm AEDT

The Los Angeles Clippers will be without Paul George for the fifth straight game when they open a six-game homestand on Sunday against the Cleveland Cavaliers. George has been dealing with a badly swollen right big toe and the Clippers have gone 2-2 in his absence. Los Angeles has won the past two games with Kawhi Leonard scoring a season-best 36 points in Wednesday’s 119-112 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves and following up with 33 in Friday’s 125-106 rout of the Chicago Bulls. Marcus Morris Sr. provided a boost by matching his season high of 20 points and making six 3-pointers (one shy of his career high) against Chicago. The Clippers have defeated Cleveland six straight times, including a 121-99 road win on Feb. 3, when George scored 36 points and made a season-high eight 3-pointers in his most recent outing. The Cavaliers lost 129-110 to the host Portland Trail Blazers on Friday and have dropped six straight games and eight of their past nine. Collin Sexton scored 25 points two nights after being held to a season-low four on 1-of-9 shooting in a 133-95 road loss to the Denver Nuggets. Cleveland is 0-3 on a five-game road trip that concludes Monday against the Golden State Warriors.

Minnesota Timberwolves v Toronto Raptors

Amalie Arena | 11:00am AEDT

The Toronto Raptors aim to continue their dominance when designated as the home team against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday when the clubs reconvene in Tampa. The Raptors have won 16 straight games when the Timberwolves visit Toronto, however the teams are meeting in Florida given COVID-19 restrictions in Canada. The Raptors had won five of their previous six contests before concluding a six-game road trip with a 120-106 setback to the Boston Celtics on Thursday. Pascal Siakam scored 23 in that contest and erupted for 14 of his 34 points in the fourth quarter of Toronto’s 137-126 win over Minnesota in the last encounter on Feb. 10, 2020. OG Anunoby, who recorded 25 points and 12 rebounds in that contest versus the Timberwolves, could return to action on Sunday following a nine-game absence with a left calf strain. Minnesota has dropped four in a row and 20 of its last 24 games following a 120-114 setback at the Charlotte Hornets on Friday. Malik Beasley scored 31 points and Karl-Anthony Towns added 25 in his second contest since returning from a 13-game absence due to COVID-19 issues. The Timberwolves will vie for their first road win versus Toronto since Jan. 21, 2004.

San Antonio Spurs v Charlotte Hornets

Spectrum Center | 11:00am AEDT

A pair of surprising division leaders battle when the San Antonio Spurs visit the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday. San Antonio opened its annual Rodeo Trip with a 125-114 win at Atlanta on Friday. The Spurs rode 52.9-percent shooting and balanced scoring, with DeMar DeRozan (23 points) leading seven players in double figures. The win was the Spurs’ fourth in their last five games and came without LaMarcus Aldridge, who remains out with a hip injury. The Spurs swept the Hornets last season, including a 104-103 win at Charlotte on March 3 that gave Tim Duncan his first NBA coaching win. The Hall of Famer stepped in for Gregg Popovich, who was away from the team on a personal matter. The Hornets have won three of four, including 120-114 Friday night over the Timberwolves. LaMelo Ball added to his rookie-season lore with 20 points and 11 rebounds, giving him two double-doubles in the last three games. Ball’s brother Lonzo had a pair of double-doubles against the Spurs his rookie season with the Lakers in 2018. The Hornets will be playing at home for the ninth time in their last 11 games. The Hornets and Spurs are tied for second-most home games played this season with 15, one fewer than the Nets.

Milwaukee Bucks v Oklahoma City Thunder

Chesapeake Energy Arena | 12:00pm AEDT

The Oklahoma City Thunder continue their murderers’ row of opponents, when they host the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday night. Oklahoma City’s last four games have been decided by a total of 12 points, including a pair of overtime road losses to the Lakers and a two-point setback Friday at Denver. The Thunder has led each of the last three games at halftime, only to be outscored by a total of 159-130 in the second half, including 86-63 in the fourth period. The Thunder has been surprisingly competitive without star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who has been dealing with left-knee pain, and emerging rookie Theo Maledon, who has been sidelined with COVID issues. Justin Jackson had 20 points off the bench in the loss to the Nuggets. The Bucks have lost two in a row, but can still salvage a winning six-game trip with a fourth win at Oklahoma City. Giannis Antetokounmpo has averaged 32.6 points and 11.6 rebounds in the first five games of the trip, which began with successive wins against the Cavaliers (two) and Nuggets. The Bucks swept the two-game season series from the Thunder last year, prevailing 121-119 at Oklahoma City in November thanks to a Brook Lopez 3-pointer with 25.4 seconds left.

Los Angeles Lakers v Denver Nuggets

Ball Arena | 2:00pm AEDT

The Denver Nuggets will attempt to extract a measure of revenge when they host the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night. Having lost a five-game series to the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals last year, the Nuggets went to Los Angeles and got smacked 114-93 in this season’s first meeting last Thursday. The Lakers successfully slowed down Nikola Jokic, who had just 13 points, nine rebounds and six assists in his first non-double-double of the season. Jokic has since rebounded to average 29.8 points, 9.8 rebounds and 9.8 assists in four straight double-doubles, leading the Nuggets to home wins over the Cavaliers and Thunder in their last two games. The Lakers have won seven in a row, but have had to work 20 extra minutes along the way, beating the Pistons in two overtimes before going one extra session each in consecutive wins over the Thunder. For the third straight game, the Lakers rallied from a halftime deficit to overtake the Grizzlies 115-105 on Friday night. LeBron James has averaged 28.2 points, 9.6 assists and 8.8 rebounds in his last five games, while Anthony Davis returned from a two-game absence (Achilles issue) to pour in 35 points in the win over the Grizzlies.

Portland Trail Blazers v Dallas Mavericks

American Airlines Center | 11:30am AEDT

The resurgent Dallas Mavericks go for a fifth straight win when they host the streaking Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night. Following the embarrassment of having allowed 147 points to a short-handed Warriors squad in a 31-point home loss on Feb. 4, the Mavericks have caught fire, beating Golden State in a rematch and then the Minnesota Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks and New Orleans Pelicans. The Mavericks have averaged 130.5 points in the four-game run, with Luka Doncic averaging 35.5 points, 9.5 assists and 8.3 rebounds. Kristaps Porzingis has chipped in with an average of 24.0 points during the winning streak, including 36 points in Friday’s 143-130 home victory over the Pelicans. Doncic had 46 points in the win. The Trail Blazers also are on a nice roll, having beaten the Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers in succession, all at home. Sunday’s outing will open a four-day, three-game trip. Carmelo Anthony has had a turn-back-the-clock week, going for 23.3 points per game on 52.3-percent shooting during the winning streak. Anthony has shot 12-for-21 on 3-pointers in the last three games, including going 4-for-5 in Thursday’s 118-114 win over the 76ers. Damian Lillard has averaged a team-high 28.7 points in the three wins.

Orlando Magic v Phoenix Suns

Phoenix Suns Arena | 1:00pm AEDT

The Magic and Suns have secret weapons ready to fire upon one another when they meet Sunday night in Phoenix. Orlando got a season-high 21 points from Michael Carter-Williams in his first game since Jan. 4 when the Magic won 123-112 at Sacramento on Friday. The veteran had missed 19 straight games with a sprained foot. Nikola Vucevic paced the win, which snapped a three-game losing streak, with 42 points. The big man has averaged 20.3 points and 12.6 rebounds in his last nine games against the Suns, recording eight double-doubles. The Suns got a 15-point contribution from Dario Saric in his return to action Saturday in a 120-111 home win over Philadelphia. The ex-76er was playing for the first time in 14 games, having left the team with a COVID issue before suffering a sprained ankle in a rehab workout. Devin Booker had 36 points in the win, which was the Suns’ fifth straight. The All-Star candidate has averaged 26.8 points during the winning streak. Booker had a team-high 24 points when Phoenix and Orlando last met in a 98-94 Suns home win last January. Chris Paul contributed 18 points and 10 assists to Saturday’s win, his seventh double-double of the season.

Washington Wizards v Boston Celtics

Capital One Arena | 5:00am AEDT

Longtime rivals Kemba Walker and Bradley Beal should be well rested for their first head-to-head of the season when the Boston Celtics visit the Washington Wizards on Sunday afternoon. Both high-scoring guards, whose rivalry dates back to Hornets-Wizards contests, were rested Friday night as their respective teams suffered losses. Jayson Tatum (33) and Jaylen Brown (27) combined for 60 points in a 108-102 loss to the Pistons on Friday, while Boston’s starting backcourt of Semi Ojeleye (9) and Payton Pritchard (2) contributed just 11 points. Meanwhile, Russell Westbrook did a solo act without his sidekick in the Wizards’ 109-91 home loss to the Knicks, putting up 23 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds. With Walker out of action, the Celtics thumped the Wizards 116-107 at home in January behind 32 points from Tatum and 27 from Brown. Beal had 41 for the Wizards. Walker and Beal have dueled on near-even terms in 24 previous meetings, with Walker averaging 20.6 points and Beal 20.5. Walker’s team has won 16 of the 24 games, including the last two (one for Charlotte, one for Boston) despite getting outscored 40-28 and 44-25 by his rival. Walker had a 47-point game in a Hornets loss at Washington in 2018.

New Orleans Pelicans v Detroit Pistons

Little Caesars Arena | 11:00am AEDT

The Zion Williamson tour does Detroit for the first time when the Pistons host the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday night. Williamson missed last year’s trip to Detroit, which occurred nine days before he made his NBA debut on Jan. 22. The Pelicans prevailed in that game 117-110 in overtime behind Lonzo Ball’s 17 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists. The Pistons had won 105-103 at New Orleans a month earlier. Williamson had 36 points in a trip to the Dallas Mavericks on Friday, but they weren’t enough in a 143-130 loss. Brandon Ingram added 30 points in the defeat, which was the Pelicans’ second straight after four consecutive wins, three at home. The Pelicans have surrendered 25 3-pointers in each of their last two games. The Pistons have survived a gauntlet of late, going 2-4 against the powerful lineup of the Jazz, Suns, Lakers, Nets, Pacers and Celtics. They have won two of the last three, including Friday’s 108-102 surprise victory at the Celtics behind Saddiq Bey’s season-best 30 points, which were 10 more than his previous high. Newcomer Dennis Smith Jr., acquired earlier in the week from the New York Knicks, went scoreless, giving him four points in 29 minutes over two games for his new team.
